In my next life, I will own a very cool WWII-vintage radial-engine seaplane just like Jimmy Buffet's. Except that it will have a Mickey-D style polished ShopSmith on it, which will be used to make gorgeous things from exotic tropical hardwoods. But only after I have become bored with watching the l...

I can appreciate your position but I do take exception to one part of you commit. You infered to me that you have been having backorder problems since the late 70's. I bought and started dealing with Shopsmith around 83 or so. In all that time since I have never experienced a backorder until after ...

Backorders

Sometimes I wonder if I am the only person on this board (or planet) that likes the Shopsmith Mark V but is continuously disappointed with their customer service. I don't mean they're not polite when I call on the phone. Getting replacement parts in a reasonable length of time has been a problem sin...

Well, I wondered about the 6' part based simply on the nominal shipping cost (about $5 as I recall). I could see that shipping for a 6" part. Besides, at 6' diameter the weight would be in the hundreds of pounds. I agree with Prmindartmouth as to what it actually is.

Ed, Asking price and sale price are often different. I got a 510 with a bandsaw and a few hand tools that were not part of the basic package for $500. Asking price started and 800 or 900 as I recall. Be patient and look for sellers that have been advertising for a while.

Very cute. Too close to the truth!. But whoever did the sheetrock work around that lightbulb base should be ashamed of their work.

I'd like to nominate this thread

for the Thread Drift of the year award. Now I have built a clock with my Shopsmith and I have contemplated building a device for tracking and predicting planetary motion, which was what the Greeks were observed to have done in the first post. Has anyone here built a rocket ship with their Shopsmith?...

Saminmn raises a good point about missing items. The rip fence is essential and it's $161 + S&H. The lathe drive is $32 as I recall. The chisel sets start around $75 for the 5 piece set, again by memory. What seems to be missing now will exceed $300 to replace. The missing parts will add up quic...

It appears the planer you're referring to is a jointer. There's a difference in what they do and what they're worth. Other than that the equipment looks okay but I think $800 is a bit high. $650 would be as high as I would consider going based on what I've seen and I'd be more comfortable at $500. A...

I'll second WmZiggy's comments on stress and what relieves it. I'll add that your disappointment in how little the tools will bring is a two edged sword. You may not get as much as you want, but after the move, you could acquire replacements at prices near what you've sold your equipment for. In my ...
