Fascinating

The Greek mechanism that is, not the political discussion. If you've got a bandsaw or a scroll saw, and some type of strip sander (or more patience than Job, the sanding can be done by hand) you can try making your own Celestial Mechanic Calendar and Orrery. Plans are available here http://www.lisab...

Just your fingers out of the blade so that any mess up can be considered a "learning experience" and not a shop accident. I strongly recommend the use of a push block for any and all flat jointing. For edge jointing I use the push block to keep the work piece flat against the fence. For s...

If you're not going to use the TS, then there really isn't a major need to upgrade at all, imo. As I recall you've done the PowerPro upgrade so you have the extra horsepower. The lathe doesn't change between the 500, 510, and 520. The jointer is a special purpose tool (SPT) and fits them all, the sa...

It looks to me also like you have a Mark V model 500, but the pictures are pretty small. In 1954 that was all they made, so it looks nearly certain that's what you have. My advice would be go for the 520 upgrade. The difference between the 510 and the 520 is mainly the fence but there are some other...

Ed, I checked the PSI adaptor I received and apparently they've revised the spec on it. The set screw on mine is installed at a slight angle. I did not measure it but 3 degrees appears to a reasonable estimate. In checking adaptor on my Shopsmith, I detected a bit of play in the spindle (independent...

Roy, When I bought the 10ER I figured I was in for a "labor of love" and would need to rebuild every inch of the machine, replace the bearings, the belts, the whole nine yards. Remarkably, all I've done is clean it and use it. It runs fine, so far.
