Thanks Art. I have the PSI adaptor for the 5/8" Shopsmith spindle to a 1", 8 TPI chuck (arbor?), which will take a wide variety of chucks, not just the NOVA. The adaptor is really beefy and well made, especially considering its under $15 delivered. Since I don't have a reverse option on my...

10ER Return to service

After seeing some of the beautiful restoration jobs here I decided it might be fun to take a 10ER and see if I could bring it back to life. They don't show up on Craigslist everyday here in Richmond, VA but they do occasionally and the prices are usually very "optimistic". This one was no ...

Derek, I'm setting my 10ER up for turning too and I'm looking at getting a chuck for the headstock so I'd love to see pictures of what you're doing. Pennview, I've looked at the NOVA chucks and I'm a bit confused between the NOVA G3, the Super NOVA and as I recall a couple of other flavors. Any chan...

I'd say you did very well. In my opinion, the bandsaw and the jointer are the two most useful SPT to have and you have them both. The planner is really handy if you buy rough sawn lumber...and for a few other things, too. From the looks of the photos, you got a very good to an excellent deal. As for...

Ed, The issue for me isn't the cost, per se. The upgrade is 'real money' not chump change but I could spring for it...if I saw a reason to. My thinking is this, I've sold my old Mark V model 500 and now have a Mark V520 (total cost of the "upgrade is $140 and may drop as I sell of some extra pa...

Congratulations! I was hoping to hear good news really soon. Now it will be interesting to hear about what you find in terms of the condition of the shaft and the inside of the chuck.

I’m sure it will be removed, though I may have to resort to the ultimate penetration process — Let’s call it Smith & Wesson oil. You really need to video this! Post it on YouTube and I bet it will go viral. On a serious note, I'm really looking forward to hearing that you have the chuck off the...

I agree with Dusty and JPG that rust is no longer the problem. If the chuck turns freely on the spindle the mostly likely culprit preventing the chuck from coming off is a burr on the spindle. No amount of penetrating oil will fix that (nor Evaporust). Dusty's idea about using a gear puller sounds r...

Grammar isn't important....

unless you think its important to understand what the other person is saying. There's a difference between saying 'You know your s**t!' and saying 'You know, you're s**t.' I won't denigrate someone when they butcher the language and 'ax me a kwest-chen' but I instantly know I've got to listen far mo...

I don't have production numbers but that poll is no where near representative of factory output. I don't even think it tells the whole story for just the forum members. Sure would have been nice to have included respondent names. Dusty, I'm guessing your post means the factory has sold a lot more t...
