Re: Older Gray Scroll Saw, is it servicable still?

It's clean as can be, plastic gears are virgin. Ran smoothly without excessive vibration. Basically mint condition so I bought it. The serial number appears to be NOV 16 and some smudged out character(s) after that. The manual is marked "PL-5156 Rev 4/88. Any idea about the date of manufacture?...

Thanks, I think I'll take a chance on it if there's nothing glaring. He can run it for me so that and a good inspection will be enough for me. It's Shopsmith, almost everything can be fixed!

Older Gray Scroll Saw, is it servicable still?

I'm looking at a older gray scroll saw (without power stand) and wonder if it's a dead end parts-wise. I don't mind upgrading but if there's parts that fail and no replacement perhaps I should pass. I search the archives, it seems that if nothing is broken or worn out it's not a problem to get the o...

I observe far too many 'assumptions' of late that folks do not realize ARE assumptions.

The assumptions are often inaccurate for the issue at hand.

Re: New Project

Now that you've made one, do you think the arc is needed? If I was to copy your fixture I'd have trouble cutting the arc in 1/4" steel plate stock but straight I could do in my shop with ease.

Re: New Project

Very nice! Why did you cut an arc versus making it straight?

I did a bunch of the self-study course but didn't finish all the lessons. I was ready to dive in and start making my own projects.

Re: so much for

LOL, the Warmists have failed to make the case by using nonsensical models that have failed at every turn. They made their world-wide consensus by offering billions to the Third World from our and our children's pockets. Why wouldn't the Third World jump on that? It also gives the UN control over th...

Did anyone else learn to use their Shopsmith with books?

Back-in-the-day, in 1986, I won my Shopsmith and didn't have a clue what I was doing. I hadn't woodworked since Jr High woodworking class back in 1974. There wasn't any youtube, VCRs were expensive and if I wanted to learn it was going to be with books. I used the owner's manual to set everything up...
