Re: New in the shop "The generic thread"

I had to wait a couple days until my new toy arrived. Its not a big deal-but for me it is as I havent thought of a good way to get around this problem on my own. Many times, I find myself trying to "eyeball" a target using things that are fairly hard to discern the center of. For instance-...

Re: Scott's My Growth Rings youtube channel & website

Thanks Chad - i think your description explains it. I must have the old version of the fence. It has a twist knob to tighten and no bracket.

Re: Scott's My Growth Rings youtube channel & website

One bandsaw fence confusion I have is the variations i see on the lock mechanism . Not the pull down handle side, but the other side which grips the table itself as shown here. I see on the last MGR video, your fence seems to be missing the aluminun bracket piece itself but the black hex? nut is in ...

Re: SS Jointer Blade Sharpening Advice and Questions

Yea- i don't have a belt sander, but i did wonder which direction the belt travelled past the blade there in that picture.
If the sander runs clockwise, this would be the direction you want.

Re: Two Tools to use for Table to Blade Alignment

Hey Dusty - your image of the dial gauge reminded me of thought i had when doing a setup. It looks like the dial gauge is making an angle (possibly in 2 directions) to what would be the surface normal (the plate) . I had something similar due to something being in the way or wanting to land on my sa...

Re: SS Jointer Blade Sharpening Advice and Questions

Here is a discussion from earlier about this topic- sorry i dont have a suggestion for test to determine sharpness. Though Im not recommending for others , you can feel the sharpness using your fingers :) https://forum.shopsmith.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=23398&p=268374&hilit=jointer+blade+...

Re: SS Jointer Blade Sharpening Advice and Questions

I built a jig for myself. It holds 3 blades. The slot angle is such that the top of the blades run parallel and at same height to that piece of purple heart (?). The angle is based on the blade angle itself ..which i forget at the moment. I think i put something on the purple heart riser to avoid sa...

Re: MAG-DRO Alignment Tool Option

Pretty interesting little device. The one comment I have is that the old dial gauge indicator is spring loaded-so it follows blade surface whether the blade gets closer or further from the miter slot. The Wixey caliper you have (same as mine) tends to hold its position...so if it encounters a high s...
