Re: Shopsmith Teknatool Chuck Adapters

The shopsmith adapter will also have the angled set screw . . . . Ed I decided to go a different way than peterm when he machined his adapters. Instead of making the adapter with the set screw mount for the SS spindle built in, I made mine so it fits onto the 5/8" Universal Arbor. I was limite...

Yes, that is pricey. I think I will hold out for a Nova chuck instead of trying to retrofit. I was going to try to make one but my machining skills aren't there yet.

Thanks for the info Ed.

Is this what you are looking for? https://www.amazon.com/Lathe-Spindle-Adapter-Shopsmith-Thread/dp/B07RHYB77N/ref=sr_1_13?dchild=1&keywords=shopsmith+1x8+lathe+chuck+adapter&qid=1631300867&sr=8-13 No, that one appears to be a 1 inch X 8 TPI. I am looking for 1 1/2 inch X 8 TPI. Thanks f...

Shopsmith Teknatool Chuck Adapters

Hi, I have researched this topic and I am still confused. Does Teknatool, or anyone else make a 1 1/2" X 8 TPI chuck adapter? I don't see one on their website, or google. I have read that the type "F" ISNS is supposed to match the Shopsmith 5/8" spindle and has a 1 1/2" thre...

Re: Homemade Speed Reducer

A metal cutting bandsaw or similar would be a better way to go. Adapting the Shopsmith Bandsaw seems to be a challenge. I wonder if the Speed Reducer can be made to work. That is an accessory I have not had. Can the Speed Reducer be connected to the Drive Sleeve shaft since the bandsaw needs to run...

Re: Homemade Speed Reducer

I have a speed reducer for sale. Will have to figure out what is a reasonable price. Richard I'd be interested for a decent price. Mike brought this subject up so he can have the first shot at it. I am interested, pm me a price. I am thinking that at 100 rpm I am still at 261 feet per minute, which...

Re: Heads Up - Bargain 'available'

Heads up if you have a Mark VII. There is a motor and switch for sale on eBay. This is the first one I have seen, and i was looking for a long time. I'd consider it myself, but recently bought an entire second machine. Thanks, Mike https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-60s-Shopsmith-Mark-VII-Motor-GE-1-1...

Re: Homemade Speed Reducer

Good point about the open pulleys David, not exactly safe. I didn't think that far ahead. Ed, I did consider a harbor freight Bauer brand porta-saw. It probably is the best option. I was hoping to utilize the shopsmith bandsaw for something useful. I will look into the base and arm you mentioned. Th...

Homemade Speed Reducer

Hi all, I got lucky and found a Mark VII a couple hours from me. I have been looking for a backup motor mostly, but a backup speed cam and another 3-button switch also adds to the peace of mind. They never come up on ebay, so I made the drive and bought the whole machine for $400. Even the gear rack...
