Re: Shop-built Shopsmith Speed Reducer

David, "I respectfully disagree. I dislike the format, primarily because much of the content already posted, and to be posted, is or will be exclusive to those forum members that are also members of MGR. Which seems to be a small percentage. The information is essentially for sale. That is inco...

Re: A channel to watch to learn for beginners?

I don't think it appeals to everyone but I have learned a lot about the basics of woodworking watching The Woodwright's Shop on PBS. Roy Underhill uses some very old tools to show not just in demonstrating their use but also in explaining why tools are made and used in a certain way as well as expl...

Re: A channel to watch to learn for beginners?

Power tools are great. I have a whole 24'x36' workshop full of them, and use them all the time. But trust me when I say this. The noise will eventually grind on your nerves. Hand tool woodworking can be just as rewarding, and very relaxing if you develop the skills. Good luck in your quest, and happ...

Re: Before Turning On Your Shopsmith Lathe, Watch This!

Anyone who is expecting "engine lathe precision" out of a Shopsmith, or any lathe based woodworking tool is asking too much from their machine. The key word is "woodworking" tool. It's not a machine tool, such as a engine lathe. There is only so much you can do when it comes to a...

I agree. I have nothing more to say on the subject. Let's get back in the shop.

Re: Is it just me ?

Now here this, bainin & RF Guy, I've apologized, explained my actions, and defended myself to no end. I have tried to be nice, hold my tongue, and keep anything negative that I say from reflecting back on Scott. I am now physically and mentally exhausted, and I have only myself to blame for that...

Re: My Bride is Gonna Kill Me! Buying a Shopsmith Mark 2 on a Business Trip!

Russ, I went back and looked at the photo again, and now I see that set screw for the depth stop quill lock. That seems like a worse, or at least much cheaper design than what the 10E & 10ER has.

Is a MK 2 main table and rip fence the same as a model 500?

Re: A channel to watch to learn for beginners?

Hi LynnJoseph. It depends on what you're looking for exactly. For general woodworking tips, Stumpy Nubs is good. Nick Engler's Workshop Companion is a excellent channel. Nick and I are personal friends (we live about 5 miles apart), and his is a bottomless well of knowledge when it comes to woodwork...

Re: Is it just me ?

The other problem with the original My Growth Rings thread was it being pushed down the list as new threads we created, or new posts were made on old threads, which is the case with any older thread that does see activity often. Chad, That's what should happen on a forum: new threads (or new replie...
