Over 25 years ago as a joke I gave Shopsmith’s Jim McCann a hatchet with the name “ChopSmith” inscribed on the handle. According the the Magna publication "Product Eng Magazine article on M5 "Example of Eng Ingenuity"" from October 1954, the holes in the left hand base were there from the beginning as a holding place for our "Shopsmith Tool Box" and chuck key. See if for yourself on Pag...
