Also, check out Stewart-MacDonald http://www.stewmac.com for parts, supplies and specialized tools (e.g., routing templates) for guitar-makers.

Re: Best method to cut a steep angle?

I'd use a jig that holds the workpiece vertically, like the Shopsmith Tenon Master Jig. Then I'd just tilt the table 22.5 degrees from vertical and make the cut. Probably dress it with a sanding disk. That's the method used by Tommy MacDonald when he built a flag box on "Rough Cut" > http...

Re: Using the Shopsmith Bandsaw

There's a video of something pretty close to Ricknwood's procedure at http://www.highlandwoodworking.com/wood ... lades.aspx. It's a Wood Slicer re-saw blade demo - the actual fence aligning runs from 5:27 to 6:46 for those not interested the Wood Slicer ad.

Re: I have a (re)finishing question

FWIW, Fine Woodworking recently rated General Finishes-Arm-R-Seal and Minwax Wipe-On Poly (at half the price) as their top one-stop finishes to use when you want the same product for either wipe on (thin coat) or brush on (hard use table tops). I second not staining that nice wood. Wipe on some mine...

Re: shop rehab

I'm going to second the idea about planning for the most common work rather than the worst case and moving the SS for the occasional long rip. I normally have about 5' for ripping, but by rotating the SS 90 degrees, I've got room for 10'-12'. I wouldn't want to leave the SS in this position because ...

Very nice! Did you check out the Dec. 2014 FWW? It has an article about making Windsor chairs almost entirely by hand - and specifically about using scorps and using split wood for spindles - that may be interesting.

Re: Glass Bottle Cutting?

I should think the best results would be to use a wet saw. I've rented them and they work quite well. I wouldn't want to be getting glass dust on my SS or shop floor.

I have the older and simpler model. The Mk II looks like it has the same brass roller. If it's the same, be aware that if you use it with water stones, stuff can get into the axle of the roller and cause it to stick. Mine did, and I wore a flat spot in it before I discovered the problem.

That sounds like the simplest. I should think you wouldn't even need something that thick - just an ordinary 3" x 3/4" galvanized steel "mending plate" let in to the surface. I wouldn't think the wooden floating tenon would work well - straight tenons aren't know for their streng...
