Re: Handwheel for Mark V?
For reference, I'm using a fairly old (Greenie) M5 and a '04 520, so it is possible that there are variants. I believe that the answer is that you could modify the 500 carriage to use the wheel but you cannot simply remove the handle and replace it with the wheel. Among the differences, on the 520 t...

Re: Heads Up - Bargain 'available'
Okay, I don't know how much of a 'bargain' this is but I just had to share. This is a 1993 Model 510 and DC, new and still in the boxes, for $1600. And so easy to ship...

Re: Newowner Informaton
It is very important to never adjust the speed control unless the shafts are turning. (They can be turned manually if necessary, a sanding disc is useful for this.) This to prevent damage, usually to the speed control. 1) The manuals say to always turn the speed to the slowest setting before turning...

Re: 510 Main Table
Thanks guys. If it is shop built it could be for almost anything, probably involving a table ;) . The tubes have more of a brushed finish, along the lines of extension table tubes but not the right size, compared to the plated(?) finish of the normal 510 table tubes with studs. It only recently occu...

Re: 510 Main Table
I have a 'what is it' question relating to 510 table systems. I picked up a 510 that had been modified with the 520 rails and included the leftover pieces. Those leftovers included two main table tubes and six auxiliary/extension table tubes, all with studs. It also included two 'other' tubes, same ...

Re: Newbie mark v owner
When there is a question of SN coverage it is useful to provide pictures. I suggest providing a picture of the SN plate or sticker, along with pictures of the headstock and main table. Make sure you review the thread on including pictures, as the forum software is pretty picky. (You'll find that und...

Re: Quill stop?
Those washers, in addition to being serrated on one side, are also keyed. You can see that in the link that JPG provided early in this thread but select Quill/feed 1 of 3, first pic shows them laying flat. Shopsmith is probably your best source, as they are a unique item. If that is a problem, Ebay ...

Re: Quill stop?
JPG - Since the OP says he is working on a greenie... In the referenced 2 of 3 thread you added a note: "retaining ring in pix behind flat washer is not included in older Mark 5." My greenie has the snap/retaining ring. Does the older M5 that does not have the retaining ring have something...

Re: Quill stop?
Important note that I left out: Farthest inside of the other bits I listed is a snap ring, It needs to be intact and in its groove. If it isn't right, you probably won't have the gap I mentioned when the stop is snug.
