Re: Router table 555413 system
The Router System combines an Over Arm Router (OAR) with a more traditional Table Router (under table). Both were available separately or together. The OAR is sometimes called a Pin Router. There are some 'Sawdust Sessions' videos that feature another version of the OAR, I suggest you start with the...

Re: New Power Station Motor Or Fix It
IIWM... Having used several SPTs on the old 3/4HP Mark 5 as well as the newer 1-1/8HP, if I was changing the motor in the PS I would go with 1 HP. I agree with Dennis on TEFC. I don't know about installation and removal of the bushing/sleeve, but original ID would be the OD of the shaft, which I thi...

Re: Do Std Shopsmith motors (the Emerson's) Come with Capacitors
The start capacitor for the Emerson is internal to the case. IIRC you can see it through the vents in the non-shaft end cap. From your post I could not tell if you were planning to use the bored out sheaves on this, I don't that is ideal.

Re: Heads Up - Bargain 'available'
I was thinking that but the main and extension tables have the locking mechanism for connector tubes. I didn't know 505's didn't have the locks, but I find that sometimes it's overly optimistic to even assume you'll get what is in the pictures. ;) We could have another whole forum section on ebay s...

Re: Heads Up - Bargain 'available'
Mark 7 with Free Shipping on ebay for $1500 opening bid. Couple of issues, from the description it says local pickup, it isn't a Mark 7, and you can't really tell what you're getting from the pictures. But at least a 505 with PowerPro, Belt Sander, and Jointer and all looks to be in good condition. ...

Re: Idler shaft gets super hot
If you can chuck the shaft into something and hold the outer race of the bearing while it spins you should not feel any vibration. That bearing can be replaced. I've posted sources for it here on the forum somewhere... Sorry, not sure I'm following this. Are you saying buy one of these assemblies, ...

Re: Idler shaft gets super hot
Some other characteristics you can check, either subjectively or by measuring: Rotation should be smooth and quiet. Runout should be minimal. Axial and Radial freeplay should be minimal. On a sealed bearing like this, there should be no evidence of oil or grease outside the seal. As far as drag, two...

Re: What parts are compatible on 500, 510, 520
Thanks. My idler looks exactly like #3. But, you’re saying #4 would be a better choice? Yes, only because the split in the eccentric bushing suggests that it came out of a newer machine. I've not heard of very many Idler bearing failures with the water pump bearing, and I haven't experienced any. I...

Re: Idler shaft gets super hot
Spinning it cold, stops before after a couple rotations. I have a loose one, uninstalled. With both sheaves on it for inertia and spinning it by hand it stops in about 3 seconds. I'd guess around 4 or 5 rotations. If yours is fully installed the button bearing would also come into play. Typically b...

Re: What parts are compatible on 500, 510, 520
When in doubt you can use the parts listings to check PN and see if that PN is used in later models. (https://shopsmith.com/service-parts/mark-v-models-520-510-505-500/) Quadrant - Assuming you mean the speed control quadrant (aka porkchop) the listings for 520, 510, 500 etc. they are the same. I wo...
