510 to 520 upgrade

Need advice. I placed a long board against my miter gauge extension. The screw holding the miter gauge angle was tight. When I began to cut, I noticed slight movement of the miter gauge throwing the cut angle away from what I had set. What should I do to prevent the set angle from slipping - use pl...

Has anyone had experience with some of the low end units, like the Wagner FineSpray 2400 or CH HV1120? I am not a professional woodworker and it would only b...

Extend the quill all the way and lock it. Then turn the set screw on top of the headstock a couple of turns to the left to loosen it. While holding the handle tightly, unlock the quill and remove it. If it catches on the set screw, loosen it a bit more. Whatever you do, don't let go of the quill han...

Bernie, did you solve your sticky quill problem? Mine started sticking again while I was making a bunch of wood plugs in drill press mode. I took out the quill and waxed it. Put it back in and it still stuck. It turned out I had the set screw a bit too tight and it made a burr on the quill that was ...

The two Traveling Academy courses that I went to, Basics II and Beginning Lathe, were not just lectures, especially the lathe class. In the Basics II class, we used the jointer, table saw, and planer, if I remember correctly. In the Lathe class, we broke up into two groups and turned a bowl as a gro...
