The Mark V upgrade packages are on sale. I have an model 510 that was upgraded from a 500 back in the mid-80's. I am considering upgrading to the 520, but want to get input from those of you that have used both the 510 and 520. Is the upgrade worth it? Does it fix the problem of the main table and e...

Bob,
That's cool. Our local woodworking club makes toys for Christmas and this would be a great addition. I assume the plans are free to pass around?

Need advice. I placed a long board against my miter gauge extension. The screw holding the miter gauge angle was tight. When I began to cut, I noticed slight movement of the miter gauge throwing the cut angle away from what I had set. What should I do to prevent the set angle from slipping - use pl...

HVLP Sprayer

I've been looking for an HVLP sprayer for paint and other finishes. HVLP looks like the way to go, but the high end units are SOOOO expensive. Has anyone had experience with some of the low end units, like the Wagner FineSpray 2400 or CH HV1120? I am not a professional woodworker and it would only b...

Larry,
When you do find your SS, I know you'll enjoy it. Check out the traveling academy schedule on the SS site. There may be one in your area. Even though you're not an owner yet, the academy would give you a head start for when you do get yours.

Extend the quill all the way and lock it. Then turn the set screw on top of the headstock a couple of turns to the left to loosen it. While holding the handle tightly, unlock the quill and remove it. If it catches on the set screw, loosen it a bit more. Whatever you do, don't let go of the quill han...

Bernie, did you solve your sticky quill problem? Mine started sticking again while I was making a bunch of wood plugs in drill press mode. I took out the quill and waxed it. Put it back in and it still stuck. It turned out I had the set screw a bit too tight and it made a burr on the quill that was ...

The two Traveling Academy courses that I went to, Basics II and Beginning Lathe, were not just lectures, especially the lathe class. In the Basics II class, we used the jointer, table saw, and planer, if I remember correctly. In the Lathe class, we broke up into two groups and turned a bowl as a gro...
