Re: Make or Buy?

You're in Baltimore. Take a ride down the BW Parkway and check out Smoots in Alexandria. They sell all the traditional woodwork and moulding. For instance, my old paper catalog lists 3 different widths of T&G in yellow pine. In the old days they would run any of their mouldings in an alternate w...

You're famous!

I've used that extension (only 1 set) on my 510, and I've been happy with it. It's fiddly and takes time, but if you're in a hurry buy your furniture from Walmart.

Re: Garage Doors

The Wood Whisperer gives his take on outdoor finishes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kD9WstyGg-s The short answer is that he doesn't recommend film finishes. I've been dreaming about building old-school swinging garage doors, perhaps from straight-grained, clear fir. I'm afraid to price out that m...

Re: Delta Faucet Warranty Service

I remember installing a free replacement faucet for my mother because the finish on the old one began peeling. Can't remember the brand, though. I do remember Moen gave me excellent service. My kitchen faucet started linking, so I bought an aftermarket cartridge at the Home Depot. Of course it didn'...

Re: Near miss: foolish mistake

I sometimes think we should have a thread entitled "Stupid things I've done." Mine would be a very similar story to yours, except it involved a dado blade taking chunks out of the Shopsmith Push Block (the one with the rubber pad). I cringe every time I think of what would've happened if I...

Private money paid for it, and all the governments approved it.

I knew none of this until rpd prompted me to look it up.

Re: stocked up ?

Back in 1979, DC was the focus of the farmers' anger. Tractor convoys came and stayed for a visit on the National Mall. My memory of the event was one of general sympathy. They were reasonably well-behaved, and this article reminded me that they helped DC dig out of a heavy snowfall. https://modernf...

Re: Trimming new flooring to flagstone hearth

It looks like you decided to go the way as the builder of our house.

Our 1933 East coast house has a fireplace with tile on the floor in front. The tile is picture-framed by the same oak flooring boards as the rest of my floors. In my case the oak flooring is at the same height as the tile.
