Re: Mark 5 doesn’t start
In addition to lubrication, as Dusty said, sometimes the belts take on a 'set' which makes them harder to turn. Automotive belt dressing helps to return flexibility. It is best to ensure the Mark 5/V is the only thing on the electrical circuit, especially while troubleshooting. Using no extension co...

Re: Shopsmith at Workbench Con 2024
I saw this accessory near the beginning of the video. I haven't determined if it is a miter gauge extension or a sled that mounts to the miter gauge, but it has some unique features either way.

Re: Greenie Parts replacement help
I made the same mistake on this same part about 40 years ago. ;) It wasn't available then either and I have never seen them for sale. It is not strictly necessary for the headstock to run, I ran mine for decades without one. Unlike the part you acquired, the older Gilmer headstocks have a metal to m...

Re: Dragged out a shopsmith
Well I’ve got the lathe pieces accounted for and am working on aligning the table. It appears I have a unit from 1983. model in What I’m running into is the 4 bolts that hold the table when loosened and rotating the table to try and get it parallel to the blade, it comes close, but I’d say 4 thousa...

Re: US Government is About to Change Table Saws FOREVER!
SawStop is taking a lot of heat for this, not just here. So I found this interesting: " Is SawStop behind the current proposed CPSC regulations? No. SawStop’s founders were advocates of CPSC regulation, but the CPSC’s recent reengagement on this topic was a surprise to SawStop. The current owne...

Re: US Government is About to Change Table Saws FOREVER!
How does one “extend” a patent? My understanding is that it is not possible. You may be able to patent improvements to the original invention, but whatever your original patent claimed is in the public domain after it expires. That’s the quid pro quo for disclosing in reasonable detail how to repli...

Re: US Government is About to Change Table Saws FOREVER!
WHAT has Sawstop done to negate anything with the 'dedication' announcement? Evidently depends on one's interpretation of the announcement. Bosch's objection, from their response, echoes PTI's (of which they are a member): "Specifically, PTI’s analysis demonstrates that the current CPSC perfor...

Re: US Government is About to Change Table Saws FOREVER!
No, it's no deal at all. First off, "dedicating" it means nothing. Secondly, the patent in question is already expired so it has no force. They're just trying to do a little reputation management at no cost to themselves. If they wanted to actually do something helpful & meaningful, t...

If we needed a confirmation of Sawstop's veracity (or lack thereof) in their concerns for woodworkers safety, here it is: https://www.sawstop.com/news/sawstop-to-dedicate-key-u-s-patent-to-the-public-upon-the-effective-date-of-a-rule-requiring-safety-technology-on-all-table-saws/ How generous of th...

Re: Income Taxes - 2023
I wish my tax filing was going a well as years past. As many of you know we moved last year so a house purchase and a house sale. It is the sale that is hitting us hard this year with capital gains after living in our old home for almost 37 years. Having to gather up all the receipts I saved all of...
