Just Wondering

If you guys are all like I have been recently, Shopsmith will survive. I have contributed nearly a grand toward their financial recovery. If the rest of the SS owners are doing the same thing, SS will become 'Blue Chip' in no time. The upside is this, my SS runs better, the spare parts drawer is ful...

Do You Have Another Saw besides the Shopsmith?

The Shopsmith is my only table saw.

However, I do a lot of cutting using a circular saw. Especially sheets goods. I cut down sheet goods to manageable size using my old 6 1/2" circular.

Conical vs Flat Sanding Disc

Yes, I would; in fact, I did. I now have three flat discs and the conical sanding disk. The flat disk is not obsoleted by any means but the conical disc does so much better a job of edge sanding. There is no comparison. One word of caution. Do not use the disc sander to "resize" lumber. Us...

Headstock Is Hot

My SS is working fine. In fact, we have been working it hard. Actually, we have been working it continuously for three days. But we are working with clear pine (no hardwood). Also, we are in an open, outdoor shop, in full morning sun and the temperatures have been in the 100s. The headstock is soooo...

Outfeed Table

My shop schedule is real packed right now but when I get some time (probably next week) I'll load some weight on the outfeed table to test your concern. I'll not load until it tips but I will load it with what I expect will be expected loads (weight) and see if it indicates a tendency toward instabi...

Extension Table Alignment

The tables can all be aligned to one another and everything works well. Please let me make that perfectly clear. There is NO problem until you try to use one of the extension tables in a location other than where it was aligned (right or left). Even then, the problem is nothing more than tubes being...

Two Main Tables

I bought 520 rails (front and rear) and mounted them to the ebay main table (hereafter refered to as the "auxillary main". Configured in this manner, the auxillary main mounts just like a floating extension. You cannot use it in this manner without support from the extension table (using l...

Two Main Tables

Ed, I checked that out. This is a different approach. He has two carriage assemblies.

Two Main Tables

It has been said that one of the most serious short comings of the SS is the small main table. SS, it my opinion, solved that problem a long time ago when they introduced the 510 but I have taken it one step farther. I have now configured a second main table (without trunnions) and use it as an auxi...

Extension Table Alignment

I feel that the main tables and all its integral parts are right on. In fact, the entire set up works great. Alignments are fine, fence slides from table to table no problem. Life is good. Until I install an extension table or floating table (especially extension table) into the system somewhere oth...
