There wasn't any mold or mildew on it after you took it out of the garage was there? Green maple sawed in the summer has a bad habit of molding if the air flow is not right. I have sawed a lot of maple and I had one guy stack 3000+ board foot in his garage even so I told him what may happen and it ...

My point is, unless you dry wood slowly, under some force to keep it flat, it does what it wants!. The most frequent damage, I believe, is end checking, due to the rapid loss of moisture at the e...

I don't plane it to a finished surface untill I need it. A good buddy of mine is into rustic EXPENSIVE furniture building, and almost all his lumber is local cut and dried. I'd try a few boards, sticker em, and watch them for a few months /seasons to see if they start to wander and check. What is t...

How long should I wait to plane rough sawn lumber?
I'm looking for some advice on how long should I wait to plane rough sawn lumber? This sticked hard maple has been in a closed garage for about 3 years and then for another year in a cool, dry, basement (70 F, 30% humidity). The planks are from 8 to 16 feet long, ~1.25" thick, and from 6 to 13 ...

Thanks Art, I just purchased a new set on knives and the jointer manual; not sure if the existing knives are worth saving. I'll compare them to see. The sharpening thing is something new for me. I've only used new knives for the planer but would like to sharpen them as well. I found several referenc...

Aka BX, aka armored cable. That statement above is self contradictory??? 'Non metallic flex.....flexible metal'??? NM stands for not-metallic aka romex. The hubbubb re nm in condiuit has to do with the fact the 'NM' is sheathed and if enclosed in a conduit will not have sufficient air circulation t...
