Something doesn't sound right. I have shipped a complete 520 from the west coast to the east coast for under $300. If it is just the scroll saw (no stand) it should ship for around $50. I use FedEx and have been very pleased with their prices and service. What is the weight of your new scroll saw?

The newer style scroll saw (green) does not have a dust port.

I have a bench cut down with just a 500 carriage and table on it. I use it for outfeed support and SPT tool storage. You could easily mount the OPR on it, I guess. Don't have one so I haven't tried. I have one of the old stand alone overarm pin routers that I picked up with another machine, so I can...

I have cut down a number of machines. If you just want a power station, you can cut the bench tubes in half. Then, cut the way tubes to be 3/4" shorter than the bench tubes. Sounds like you want something between a full size Mark V and a power station. One machine, I shortened 18-1/2" and ...

If you are inclined, you can go to http://www.sdarc.org . This is the San Diego American Red Cross and offers ways that you can help. As for me and my family, we are in the La Mesa area and did not have to evacuate. The fires came within a few miles, but fortunately were south of us. This is the sec...

Like Scott, my wife willingly supports purchases for projects. And, like others it is hard to turn your back when a sale is going on an item you have been wanting. Fortunately, there is no budget and I am frugal.

Tube Lengths

The way tubes are 52" and the bench tubes are 52-3/4" long. Today both tubes are 1-3/4" diameter. On the early machines, the bench tubes were 1-7/8" diameter. Hope this helps.

Alec,
My Magna wobble style dado has a removable sleeve in the bore that allows the use of a 5/8" arbor.....sounds like you are missing the sleeve or you have the sleeve and are trying to mount it on a 1/2" universal arbor.

One other option is to pick up a used lower saw guard from a 505/510/520. They show up all the time and can be had for less than the dust chute.

Two Bearing Quill

Other then headstock serial number, is there a way to examine the quill and determine whether it is a two bearing or single bearing quill?
