I will probably place an order with SS INC for the bandsaw insert, collars and screws, power coupler and two key chucks, one for the headstock and one for the tailstock. I have priced out some nice lathe chucks and that ...

Dusty, the link you gave me showed serial numbers corrsponding with the year of the bandsaw. My bandsaw tag reads:

Model 505641
SS-1073

I am assuming it is a 1981 bandsaw according to the chart.

Hi Dusty, I went here (see link below) to track down the serial number. It shows 1973 to 1978 only used a 4 digit serial number. My tag on the headstock reads SS-5009. Looking at thier charts all the rest have 5 digits. Therefore I am assuming it was made somewhere bewteen 73 and 78. Could that be c...

I found the coupler, yay! It does not state if it will bolt up to my motors 4 grooved hub and my bandsaws 5 grooved hub though.

They are used to hold square blocks of briarwood for turning tobacco pipe shapes. Yes a 4 jaw will work also. A 3 jaw will not. go to the timeline of 1:14 to see a 2 jaw lathe chuck. The entire vid is 10 minutes. If you want to see a pipe being made (IMO in a crude fashion) but still with great resu...

Thanks for the advice all! I just bought a SS and I am thrilled. I will post pictures very soon. I got a 1976 SS with a bandsaw and other goodies for 200US bucks. It is in excellent condition and had one original owner. It did not come with a drill chuck and coupler. The new one from shopsmith does ...
