Weekend Work

Experimented with something a few of the low altitude members of my household can make good use of. I think I would forego the screws next time and try some wood slots/joints- but my confidence level isnt quite there yet.

Still need to find out if it will support them =)

Re: 2nd project-which should have been first!

Ya-its pretty humid here in NC..things take some time to dry out.

I was thinking about a small fan, or maybe an old 20W lightbulb.

Do you think a small fan in an enclosed box would move air enough to
aid drying?

2nd project-which should have been first!

Hey all- I realized after starting the staining / finishing on my first project that everytime I stained something, everything had to stop in the shop to keep the dust down. This was difficult-as I tend to want to keep going once Im started up . So I had this old metal half height shelf with a missi...

Re: Replacing Tires and Blade on the Bandsaw

I've had good luck using "Goo Gone" on these tenacious adhesive layers under the bandsaw tires as well as under the disc sander sheets. You have to scrape it down first as mentioned above but once its a thin layer-this stuff is good to clean to the final surfaces. On the bandsaw- once you ...

Re: Where to purchase parts?

I have online (thru SS website) ordered 3 or 4 times in the last 2 months.
I have received an email response of the order, and a shipping notification.

All orders were delivered quickly, even 1 placed the day before the tornado touched down.

Re: First Project- Critique

The wife wants me to burn the date/initials into them...but I tend toward the clean look.

I don't have an engraving tool, but I like that idea better than using a soldering iron to burn the nice wood.

I will look into this though !

Re: First Project- Critique

Oh sorry not honey haha-its beeswax - I used Tried and True -link here. https://www.triedandtruewoodfinish.com/products/original-wood-finish/ I know them as "German breakfast boards"...though I think they have numerous names. They are simply a plate replacement for breads/cheeses/deli meat...

Re: First Project- Critique

Any thoughts on the water proofness of a linseed oil+ honey mix ?

I'm looking for a food safe coating that can hold off a bit of water/rinsing once in awhile.

The only thing I've come up with is Shellac so far.

thanks,

First Project- Critique

Hey all- Here is my first completed project-it gave me some exposure to various tools on the SS I recently purchased and was overall a good learning experience. I'd like your critical input on the result. The wife had brought some German breakfast boards with her when she moved over and they have be...
