Re: A few questions about restoring a Mark V

Since you said it suffered smoke damage but not heat damage from the fire I have to wonder how much it affected it. Was the fire in the room or garage it was stored in? By the way I am a retired Firefighter so I am very familiar with the effects of fire and smoke. Most house fires do not produce smo...

Re: 10e jointer and shaper fence

Do take it all apart except maybe the bearings in the variable pulley sleeve. These need to be pressed in and if they are in good shape no need to chance damaging them by removing and re-installing. When reassembling, the main things to watch for is do not compress the springs on the end of the adju...

Re: Beginning fixing up a 10E — Need help please

I would go with JPG said
I would let the penetrol 'dry' well before surface removal. Think days. Then dampened rag.
That should only clean it off the smooth surface and only damp not soaked rag.

Re: Identify part

John is probably correct but since I cannot see the top of the Arbor without the nut I am not sure which one of the two shown below you have. The one on the left is P/N 555608 and is the 5/8" Saw Blade Arbor originally for the Sawsmith Table Saw but now for the Mark V 505, 510, 520 and Mark 7. ...

Re: Beginning fixing up a 10E — Need help please

As Dennis said do not try to get the tubes turned down enough to get the pits out. The Headstock and Carriage will slide well enough over the pits that you really won't notice that they are there unless you are actually looking at them. The rust removal you have done and keeping rust from forming in...

Re: How to paint the access badge?

I have sanded off the paint on similar logos found on Shopsmith/Magna tools like Bill V has done. I believe it is the way they are originally done at the factory.

Re: Bearing replacement

Peter, The original brand of bearings are Fafnir at least in the US. For the quill bearings they are 202KLL3 and for the drive sleeve bearings they are 205KLL2. Fafnir is now part of Timken so look for them under that name too. Below are pictures of the 2 Bearings. Note that the part numbers are on ...

Re: Beginning fixing up a 10E — Need help please

See mickyd's post in the following link. it's the fourth one down. https://forum.shopsmith.com/viewtopic.php?p=32230 Although it was for Mark 5 bench and way tubes the idea is the same. For polishing tubes I use my Mark 7 with a similar expansion plug and a set of rollers on an extension table inste...

Re: Accessory Storage Idea Thread

I don't have a plan for an additional storage cart yet. I think I will work on restoring the Shopsmiths I currently have before deciding on what to make next. I do have additional storage mostly for older accessories which is a 5 drawer tool chest under the Model 4E Jointer and Model 10 Jig Saw show...
