510/520 table connector tube length

I am helping out a friend that has aquired a used 510 and it is missing a couple of the table connector tubes. The 2 he has measure 27", as do the 4 I have. Shopsmith lists: 514439 Extension Tube - 24" connector tube ... $12.60. Does anybody know if they changed the length or is that a mis...

Re: Sanding disc maintenance

All that is being discussed is why I use the velcro system. I have had it for at least 25 years and have changed paper hundreds of times. :D Only downside I have experienced is you cant sharpen with it.

Re: Powerstand

The stand with the bowtie mount is really old. Magna Corp or very early Shopsmith Corp. I have one like that and got rid of lower leg braces/motor mount and bolted plywood mount to underside of top to hang motor.

Re: Where did you get your shopsmith?

My fathers 500 with jointer was puchased at a mall demo around 1980. I purchesd my 510 with multiple SPT's in 1990 while working at shopsmith in Kansas city.

Re: Table Saw Blades

I guess I will put in my two cents worth of info/opinion. First I just ordered the saw blade package with arbors for $194. Not a bad deal if you are looking for a set of blades AND arbors. Another clue that CMT makes SS blades is the shape of the antivibration/noise dampening laser cuts in the blade...

Re: Non-skid/.mar feet for Mark V stand

That sounds like a much better approach than what I do, which is to try to pull up on the way tubes when lowering the machine off of the casters, but that doesn't always lessen the impact. The Shopsmith Products pages don't show a picture of the leg boots ... could you perhaps take a picture of you...

Re: Non-skid/.mar feet for Mark V stand

I have used what Shopsmith calls a leg boot 513969 on my 510 for over 20 years. It is from the planer stand and old power stands. I put them on so the bottom of the legs wouldn't rust. It also softens the drop a little from the casters. In my situation it also acts as a vibration dampener. I ordered...

Re: drying/curing/seasoning wood logs

Dave, First, that is not a dumb question. Except for some rare exceptions the pith or center of a log is not a part used in turning. If you were turning between centers a spindle or say a post you would NOT want to include the center pith again because of the drying. As for bowls you are limited to ...

Re: drying/curing/seasoning wood logs

David, there is an excellent book I used back in a wood technology class. It is "understanding wood" by Bruce Hoadlley. It has way more in it than you need but will help you understand how wood behaves. If you just google it and look at the the cover you will see how wood drys. The first t...
