Re: Pilot hole vs clearance hole
Sorry to come late to the party, but if you have yet to choose the type of screw, I’d like to recommend the fastenmaster. There are a few styles and they are pricey! , but will hold amazingly well. Fairly certain they are available at HD (I usually buy mine via Amazon since projects that need ...

Re: Is there a difference between these fences?
I too, had many pieces for the shaper and only needed the fence for my Mark 7. There was an offering from SS where the fence was available separately but it was for an assembly other than the shaper package, though I can’t remeb which package. I am certain the fences are the same or at least mine wo...

Re: What can I do with this Beech wood?
A beechwood mallet would be one of my projects. They work great for hand work with chisels. Whether you turn the head or cut to shape, you could still turn the handle. Beechwood reacts well to low power microwave drying, especially if any end edges are well sealed. Regarding the Titebond over Anchor...

Re: Lesson Relearned
Hmmmm?! About 15 years back I recall helping a friend with his pickup, more for moral support than anything else since I’d not worked on a diesel. Turned out that the O rings on the injectors were the culprit. He had a similar experience where plugging in the block heater (his wife’s idea) helped. A...

Re: Oxidation
Bar Keepers Friend soft (liquid) cleanser should make short work of the oxidation, and restore the shine. Then polish with Johnson Paste Wax to lubricate and protect. +1 to Bar Keepers Friend! I’ve switched to the spray foam only because it was what a friend had bought and had a spare bottle. The l...

Re: Paint color question??
Rustoleum has a midnight blue, but I presume you know about it and it is still too light. If you are willing to pay about $20 for 16 ounces in a rattle can, head to a nearby NAPA and ask their paint guy to mix you a single shot (as compared to base coat clear coat) of the darkest blue black that mee...
Re: MDF
I want to get 1/4" mdf to make templates, but Lowes, HD, Menards, nor either of my local lumber yards carry it. I wondered if anyone had ideas? Maybe someone purchases it on-line and it's ok. I'm concerned about what shape such an order would arrive in. Thanks for reading! The local HD carries...

Re: Today in the shop (new project laser positioning)
If you haven’t already, lightly roughen both sides of the ends of the blade with emery cloth. It gives a bit more tooth for the tip of the set screw to hold on and the flat mating surface of the holder, a bit more friction. When I get a new package of blades, as I examine them for defects (happens e...

Re: Boat Building
Another source could be Mike Young. Though he built a sail boat rather than a motor boat, he might have some tidbits. If he is doing a demo in your area, you might stop by.

Ed,
Since Woodcraft is a franchise, is the one you are going to, one that might price match? I don’t know that they do a Veteran’s discount (never asked them and the closest is 300 Miles so don’t visit to often), but they still might honor that discount or part of it.
