Thanks, folks, for the kind words. For a1gutterman's question, nu[de]hobby says: The remodel job removed a towel bar from the shower door. After shower, no problem taking a wet towel across the room to another towel bar for drying. But, before shower, it was too easy to forget to bring a dry towel n...

irony on leg bolts & nuts

Just a quick ironic note. My 2nd acquired machine ('81 500) differed from my main machine (newer 510) in having countersunk type bolts and square nuts to join the legs to the base castings. Hi,

I'm still at 510. The 520 looks drool-worthy. The only downside I've heard at all is a slight view-block of the table-trunnion, by which you might need to kneel down somewhat lower than you would for a 510, to see your table angle. I'll keep dreaming of the 520.

And...

Some of us are very smitten with the Mark 5. We "see sparks fly" even when not loosening Allen screws.

Dusty,

Somehow I am intrigued by the provision of the threaded adjustment hole (normally used only when setting the 510 fence deliberately a bit out of square). Maybe you can make a micro-adjusting fixture of some sort.... I'll keep thinking on this one....

Hi, There are instructions for replacing the Poly-V belt at: http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/productmanuals/PolyV_GilmerBelt_Replacement.pdf Page 4 tells that there are 2 different setups for which grooves to lay the belt in, on the drive sleeve (upper) assembly. The older machines are for instan...

I like Chuck's jig!

Speaking of using T-slots, here is the jig I made several weeks ago:
