Re: AO Smith motor rebuild

I've repaired the leads, which wasn't a huge deal and gotten the motor back together, However... it is now running for a minute then tripping out my breaker. It pulls 45 amps in both directions and buzzes like hell while running. The capacitor tests ok... Any other thoughts? Start switch functionin...

Re: Gas prices , again

I saw in the paper this morning that there would be no copa increase for social security. Apparently the low gas prices was a big factor in inflation index. That makes sense lower gas prices figure the inflation index once it is done you raise it up again for another year. Yes I read the same thing...

Re: Gas prices , again

Gas here in Utah is higher than the national average for some unknown reason and we have a refinery right here in Salt Lake City. It never varies drastically from day to day but when it does go up or down it is usually 2 or 3 cents a day over a week or 10 days. Right now it is 2.52 and that is the l...

Re: Lathe Tailstock Pin

What am I doing wrong? Is the tailstock pin supposed to turn too? There are two types. A dead center that does not turn and a live center that has a bearing in it and does turn. The center that comes with a SS is a dead center. You will get some burning. Wax or paraffin will help. Also don't tighte...

Re: Shopsmith scroll saw

I strongly recommend that you incorporate the quick disconnect upgrade. It will make a world of difference and especially so for inside cuts. I have the same model and love it. They have two kits, one is with the newer style clamps only, and the other is with the tension quick release. Which do you...

Re: 10ER Switch

Dick Sorry to break the bad news but any switch you get will be either Chinese crap or Mexican crap. You may want to try this one. I have used these on MK V's with good results. http://www.we-supply.com/browse.cfm/4,2915.html Bill V Do you know if the threaded barrel will fit through the cast iron ...

Re: Restoring 10ER S/N 83974

Wood this work for ya? http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/catalog/logo_stickers.htm I think the problem would be that it wouldn't stick to the rough cast iron very well. The original was painted on I think. I need to find a place that can cut a stencil. The original looks like it was a white circle...

Re: Restoring 10ER S/N 83974

Thanks guys. I have four more here to refurb. The plan is to keep two of the five. The first one to keep will be a display machine. By all accounts it was a demo machine. It has the SS logo on the back side of the head stock. I just need to find out how to restore the logo. DSCF0708 (480x640).jpg DS...

Re: Heads Up - Bargain 'available'

Found the Forrest King Dado 6" on sale in the close out section of Woodcraft for $200 plus shipping. Yes they are pricey but retail is $300 and the cheapest I found before was $260 I seldom buy from Woodcraft because their sale prices are usually higher than many other sources every day prices...

Re: Chalkboard Table Top

My daughter and family have a chalkboard wall. Kids love it and it is really cool for almost everyone who visits. She said the paint will work on almost all surfaces so you can even make a jar a chalkboard.... I personally have never done chalkboards, back when our kids were young I don't think the...
