Re: Scroll saw: 7/8", 1 3/32" , or 1 3/16" stroke length?

Is it possible the shorter stroke emerged with the self powered model? (requires less HP) Mine is the self-powered 555272 and the stroke is the 1 3/16" in the photos above. (I suspect mine is supposed to be 1 3/32" and the extra 3/32" is due to manufacturing tolerances) Also, the man...

Some possibly supporting data: The part number for the weighted cam, which determines the stroke, changed between the grey and teal versions.

Scroll saw: 7/8", 1 3/32" , or 1 3/16" stroke length?

There is a post by JSBurger describing his "Teal" scroll saw as having almost no vibration: https://forum.shopsmith.com/viewtopic.php?p=222280#p222280 Try as I might, while I have been able to greatly improve the smoothness of my scroll saw, above about 3/4 speed there is noticable vibrati...

Repositionable Scroll Saw air hose

I bought a $7 Loc-Line 1/4" hose kit on Amazon and mounted it to the scroll saw using a 3D printed coupler. I improvised rather than buy the special Loc-Line tool.

Re: Refurbing a Scroll Saw

Later "Teal" scroll saws have a modified upper arm to eliminate interference with the knob on the blade clamp. The rightmost "finger" of the arm is deleted and the quick-release pin is replaced with a roll pin. I went a similar route. After removing the "finger" I short...

Re: Refurbing a Scroll Saw

I believe there were some minor design flaws with the first generation scroll saw in respect to lateral slop in the arm bushings. This was partially remedied by adding spring washers to one side. The arm pivots were redesigned with the release of the teal version. The root cause was twofold: 1) The ...

Re: Refurbing a Scroll Saw

Shims made and added. Making a nice shim is harder than expected. I made 0.010" shims from brass and 0.005" from aluminum (coke can). The upper blade mount took two brass shims (total 0.02") and the lower one of each (total 0.015") both leaving sufficient clearance for operation....
