Re: Zyliss Vise

I continued my fascination with the Zyliss vice and its history by buying an original wood-handled model branded with earlier "Zylyss" spelling. Lots of minor differences such as the design of the handle arm, lack of quick-release, and lack of notches in the base for mounting accessories s...

Re: Maintenance parts to buy (mothership concerns)

paulrussell, You should be concerned about the health of Shopsmith Inc. since they ceased to exist a decade ago. Arg. Knew that but clearly forgot. All: Overall I'm most concerned about proprietary consumables and semi-consumables (such as planer knives). As several have mentioned, you don't know w...

Maintenance parts to buy (mothership concerns)

I will be honest, I'm a bit concerned about the health of Shopsmith Inc. Recent retirements there have significantly changed the company. Jim McCann is an excellent engineer, but he has to be nearing retirement as well only further eroding knowledgeable people at Shopsmith. And like the rest of thw ...

JPG wrote: Sat Jan 16, 2021 1:05 pm I suggest increasing the clearance on the larger id areas and leave the smaller id(nubs so to speak)tight. The nubs will wear quickly whereas the larger id areas will wear slowly.
Great suggestion, thank you.

dusty wrote: Sat Jan 16, 2021 11:25 am I sorta like them snug (as this one is).
Me too.

Also, the couplers have a _very_ slight taper (0.5 degrees) to hopefully maintain a snug fit over time.

Re: Yet another 3D printed coupler design

Dusty Yes. Without the spring it is tricky. WIth a spring it pops right off -- at least on my machine. It was a really tough design decision as to how snug the couplers should fit, especially since I believe they will loosen up a bit after some use. One of my pet peeves of the later white couplers i...

Re: Yet another 3D printed coupler design

Congratulations on a job well done. The coupler fits the hubs just great. I had to fine tune hub alignment but that was not the fault of the coupler. Gotta conduct an investigation to determine who done it. Thanks for the update Dusty! Looking forward to hearing more, be it good or bad. For those w...
