Re: Holding your liquor
I glued up the rest of the first tulip blank. It’s very heavy so this is going to be slow going. I’m not going to use the traditional tailstock. I have a stripped down headstock which I will mount on the tubes facing the powered headstock. That way I can use a faceplate on each end for better stabil...

Re: The stairs are starting to take shape
Really nice job ! I really like the contrasting woods. You will definitely need to add something for traction. Smooth finished wood treads are treacherous in socks for instance. We learned that the hard way years ago. It’s painful putting fasteners in your beautiful treads though. From an esthetic a...

Holding your liquor
The next project is a redo on the liquor cabinet. It will be a combination of mahogany and alder. Part of it will be three large turnings out of mahogany in a tulip style to hold the platters which will be mounted on a vertical turnstile. The basic dimensions of the turnings are 15” diameter and 16”...

Re: Another Xmas turning
Turning on the SS is just pure fun for me. I highly recommend it Bainin. There is certainly a learning curve but not a difficult one. As far as tips on turning burls first off be careful. They tend to explode on you unexpectedly so protective gear is absolutely necessary. Probably a good idea for al...

Another Xmas turning
I’m still trying to get ahead of the Xmas present thing. This is a piece of mesquite that I roughed out years ago and have never quite gotten to. It’s like turning a land mine. Ready to explode at any moment.

That is a very cool system. Everything they make is so well made. I am yearning for a set of their rules. The storage system is very nice also !

Doing the Bill Murray thing
The last two days have been shop maintenance days which is mostly cleaning, organizing and getting the bins of burnable scraps ready for winter. The final act was using the leaf blower to blow all the fine dust out the doors. What a cloud. Feels good to get things back to organized though
