Hard, smooth walled pipe will flow cleaner with less potential for clogging. Some individuals think that smaller works, it doesn't. I work for Woodcraft and suggest that they go as large as they can for their DC. The ones that don't believe come back later for bigger pipe. In my shop, I have 4"...

Thanks. I have emailed my brother pictures. I'll see if I can twist his arm to machine the pieces for me. Now I have to come up with another tool rest support. I blew mine up a few weeks ago, luckily I had a universal tool rest sitting on the shelf. I have played with some of the smaller duplicators...

Lathe duplicator - Sawdust Session #?

Does anyone know which Sawdust Session covers the duplicator? I found the one using parts to straighten a cylinder, but I want to watch the entire demo on using the duplicator. I am actually trying to come up with a cheap duplicator for a Vega lathe that I bought hoping that a duplicator would come ...

Intarsia or Marquetry

Intarsia is 3D with varying levels. It would be marquetry which is very similar to inlay except that it is usually in greater detail and hot sand is used to scorch edges of some pieces to create shading and the hint of 3D in a flat surface. You will notice that the bottom edge of the shell is shaded...

Pen mandrel for SS

I haven't looked at PS mandrel, but you don't need a special mandrel for the SS. Mandrels get bent over time so everyone sells a replacement bar usually for less than $5. Chuck it up in the drill chuck and start turning. The kurled knobs are sold separately or you can use a regular nut (just not as ...

By off setting the bottom blank and double stick taping the blanks together I was able to cut identical circles leaving waste on all sides of one blank. I drilled a hole thru both blanks before placing on the pivot point of my circle cutting jig. This was essential to centering the blank for all fut...

More pics

The glued blank fit the pattern from the wikipedia decagon trick as well as the test cuts did in the Angle 1 pic. After gluing I thought I was off on the blank and set it on the pattern to check. It looked like I had traced around the blank it fit so well.

Pedestal pics

This was a fun and challenging project. These pics will show the steps I took to ensure an almost perfectly balanced blank before it went on the lathe. I used a rail and stile bit combo to create a stronger edge joint and ensure better alignment for the blank. My table saw insert was turned into a p...
