Re: US Government is About to Change Table Saws FOREVER!
No! You're still mischaracterizing. No one is saying the entire patent system is bad. And no one is saying SawStop should be punished . Only that they should not be allowed to manipulate the market by gaming the system via the CPSC. It should be a level playing field. Shades of gray...As you said i...

Re: US Government is About to Change Table Saws FOREVER!
I don't agree with your version of what happened at SawStop, but I am also NOT going to endlessly debate it here either. IF you feel this passionately about all of this, why not join the CPSC or advocate for patent law changes with the government to enact change? This discussion could go on ad infin...

Re: Sharpening Guide
RF Guy; Thanks for those links. I had never encountered Ashley Harwood before. Judging from the photos, she is quite accomplished. I looked at the tools she has for sale and was interested to see that she is selling some "negative rake" scrapers. This is something else I have only recentl...

Re: US Government is About to Change Table Saws FOREVER!
I am not a patent attorney and I don't care to debate the details of patent law, so I will continue to skate around the perimeter here as is my prerogative. So, if this is the key patent for SawStop's invention and if it is expired then why all of the hullabaloo??? Other manufacturers should be raci...

Re: US Government is About to Change Table Saws FOREVER!
My 'attitude' is the result of my 'understanding' of Gass's 'strategy'. Yes it is a personal perspective. I totally agree re your patent understanding. I wasn't referring to your posts above, though my post did follow yours. Cost is not the CPSC's main concern, Safety is. However I do think consume...

Re: US Government is About to Change Table Saws FOREVER!
It is surprising how some think SawStop should freely give most of their patents to the public domain. I'd really like to understand their justification for this. Should Shopsmith have pushed their patents into the public domain in the past? I mean if their 5-in-1 tool is superior to all others, why...

Re: US Government is About to Change Table Saws FOREVER!
David, Thanks. I appreciate it. All, Yeah, this has been my point, i.e. there are at least 2 sides to every story. If you don't believe me, go read about the ones I pointed out earlier. There were fierce patent wars between Tesla & Edison, Armstrong & DeForest and many others. Also several ...

Re: Sharpening Guide
Mike; Thanks for pointing me to the 40/40 grind . In the article I mentioned, Mike Mahoney does refer to Stuart Batty . After seeing your post, I looked up Batty and I see he has a lot to offer. I appreciate the link. Ed, Don't know if it is helpful or not, but Ashley Harwood worked with Stuart Bat...

Re: Festool TS 55 won't start
This is embarrassing. The problem was simple. The Festool power cord has a lock that must be twisted to fully engage. Even though the first thing I tried was to remove it and put it back on, apparently I did not twist it far enough and it wasn't locked on. A good twist and now it is making sawdust ...

Re: Festool TS 55 won't start
Alan, Sorry to hear that. I haven't had a problem with mine yet. If the power cord is good, brushes maybe? Have you tried checking them and/or re-seating them? There is also a thermal overload device, but it sounds like the saw was cold beforehand so I doubt it was that...unless you were using it a ...
