Re: Help identifying parts

tprowood, At the time your Shopsmith was made there was only one model the Mark 5. Notice I called it a Mark 5 and not Mark V which changed in 1980 to using the Roman numeral instead of the number. The Shopsmith tool itself didn't change at that time. When Shopsmith Inc. (the company) introduced the...

Re: Help identifying parts

tprowood. Welcome to the Shopsmith Forum. Serial number SS 41594 is indeed from 1979 and August to be more precise. I have found it is common to get non-Shopsmith parts when buying a used Shopsmith tool. I cannot identify the parts in question other than they are sitting on a Mark 5 Main Table but t...

Re: Shopmate 5 in 1 tool

Definitely a clone but the first I recall seeing named Shop Mate. Notice the power switch location on the lower front of the Headstock in the third picture from Miltinker. Also, it appears to have a smooth top cast iron Extension Table like the one pictured below with a Mark 5 Extension Table from t...

Re: OLDER SHOPSMITH

STEVE, Until you can get a picture of the Shopsmith you have to show us, below is a Model 10ER from late 1951 or early 1952 to compare. The Model 10E was introduced in November 1947 and replaced by the 10ER which continued through 1953. _ R64000.jpg . Below is a Mark V from 1982. The Mark 5 was intr...

Re: cleaning and preparing tubes for rebuild.

Like JPG's suggestion I use a 2" ID PVC pipe slightly longer than the Bench Tubes with a cap glued onto one end and a cap that slips onto the other end. This uses about a gallon of liquid to submerse the Way or Bench Tube inside the PVC Pipe. Evaporust is a great remover of rust on metal parts ...

Re: cleaning and preparing tubes for rebuild.

DOWeaver, You said, I remember reading about some chemical that you could use if the rust pits on tubes where deeper than you could sand out. I believe you already know this but others looking for advice may not. Sanding of the Way Tubes is not the best method for rust removal and evening out rust p...

Re: Shopsmith Mark 5 What When and Where

Below is page 26 of the 10:56 Owner's Guide. The nylon collar is A3408 in the exploded view but is B3408 in the parts list. That is what I was referring to.

Re: Shopsmith Mark 5 What When and Where

John, Thanks for the correction. I must have been going backwards when I found the nylon collar in the 10:56 Manual but not in the 10:55 Manual and stopped there. :o Hopefully others can answer the question did the nylon collar appear then was discontinued only to be included later or was it an erro...

Re: Don’t let this happen to you on your Shopmsith

Scott,

Excellent reminder and showing what can happen if we forget to do all the checks before turning on our Shopsmith. I once started making a cut without the Quill locked. :o Not something I will forget to do again.
