Patience. That is what you need. Compared to other tools, there aren't a lot of Shopsmiths out there, so you need to search and be ready to buy when the good deal pops up. I see them for sale occasionally here, but not on a regular basis, and when I find one for sale, sometimes it is a great deal, a...

Here is some of the planed cherry. Since it was rough sawn, there will be more waste than if I had bought finish planed wood at my wood supplier, but I feel I got my money's worth on it.

Isn't it a felony to paint hardwood? It should be. People who paint hardwood should be forced to drink their paint.
Good luck undoing the damage. The finished product will be worth it.

I'm just an ole Southern boy. Someone please explain to me why anyone would live anyplace that gets that darned cold?!?!?!. Mostly because cold is very tolerable if you dress for it. Your heat and humidity would make me sick really fast. Even summers here get too hot and humid for me to be able to ...

I planed the wood yesterday. Most of it turned out very nice. Like all rough cut wood, there are some flaws in it, but I suppose that is part of getting a better price. Supposedly, this wood was cut at a Wisconsin sawmill over 10 years ago, kiln dried, and then he brought it to North Dakota. The boa...

No wood locally ? Well go plant some trees !!! Since your machine will outlive you, think of your legacy. Your offspring can inherit the machine, and have local wood too boot.! The problem with that is that winters here drop to -45 degrees and very few species of hardwood trees can survive these ki...

Nice tool. After I broke both of the 90 degree Shopsmith allens for my Shopsmith 20 years ago, I bought 2 of Shipsmith's T handle ones. I like them so much better.

Thanks for the information, guys. I want to get out and set up the planer today and see what I have here. If it turns out nice, I would consider getting more of the wood. Living in a treeless area of the country, I almost never find a deal on wood. My wood buying has always been to go to my local su...

Rough wood--experts needed

I came across a local guy who has some Wisconsin rough sawn cherry in his garage that he has had there for over 10 years. He is selling it off for $2 bd/ft. Living in a part of the country that has no wood, this looks like a true deal to me, so I bought some this week and hauled it home. I have no p...

I learned that one a long time ago. I left the fence on my 500 loose and it ended up on the floor. It wasn't damaged, but I never did that again. Now I have a 510 and won't leave that one loose either.
Some lessons need to be learned the hard way.
