Re: Kiss the apples goodbye

If the weather service numbers are accurate, it looks like you didn't get cold enough in the last few days to damage apples.

Re: Kiss the apples goodbye

"Hard freeze" is a vague term. What kind of temperatures are you expecting? The thermometer doesn't lie, forecasters do. Three years ago we got a late snowstorm in late May. The temperature dropped below 32 degrees for 36 hours straight and as low as 22 degrees during 2 nights of that 36 h...

Re: Kiss the apples goodbye

I don't know about blueberries, but apples can handle a lot of cold without damage when they are in bloom. Up in this end of the world, we almost always get a lot of freezing nights during and after the apples bloom, and they still produce fruit. Unless the temps drop into the low 20s or teens, you ...

Re: SS Jointer Blade Sharpening Advice and Questions

My experience with both my jointer and my planer blades is that they hold an edge very well and don't require sharpening often. Over the past 30+ years, I've simply taken them to a pro to be sharpened when needed. I use both of them a lot and still get years of use between sharpening. I never use re...

What's with the pictures? Most of the area of the picture is blacked out. Your camera looks like it needs some setup to take better pictures.

Re: Sad how bad some machines were treated

Like it or not, we need to accept that some machines have been abused so badly that they can't be saved. Those people who won't keep them indoors in a clean environment just destroy the machine so you don't want it anymore. It can easily be more work and cost to rebuild it into working condition tha...

Re: I am beyond help.

Ordering crap online is so much fun! That is why I still "BUY LOCAL" whenever possible. What burns me is that many of my local stores list the products I want, but don't stock them in the local stores so I still have to order through their website and wait for damaged products to arrive. W...

Re: Maintaining an old, long idle Mark V

If the speed changer moves easily and smoothly, I probably would do nothing to it. If it feels a bit hard to turn, give it just a bit of thin oil. Too much oil will collect dust and cause future problems by making it stick. Not enough oil can cause it to stick from lack of lubrication. And, NEVER tu...

Re: Bandsaw drift, is this normal?

If you have spare blades on hand, I would pop a new one on the saw and try again. If the existing blade has more wear on one side than the other, it will drift like that. Blades, unlike the other parts of your saw are comsumables so they are a good place to start trying to clear up the problem.

Re: Stimulus Check

2019 income tax return still has not been posted on IRS.Gov. Mine is in the same situation. I sent it in in mid-February and it still doesn't show up on IRS. One article I read says that IRS is so bogged down with the stimulus payments that they aren't even looking at paper tax returns until later ...
