I built a bench from Woodsmith magazine which was described as a heavy duty bench. I added two 9" woodworkers vises on the front and the right end. The vices are quick release types and cost $59.99 each from HF The end panels of the bench were formed from pieces of 2X6 southern yellow pine cut ...

Hi Gang; I agree with all of the previous posts. The one thing that I consider when buying a router is that the collett should be separate from the armature shaft. Some cheap routers have the collett machined as a part of the armature shaft and I consider this to be an inferior design. If a bit slip...

Greg; Yes a worn blade can cause that problem as well as too loose on the tension, improperly adjusted guide blocks and having the set of the teeth on one side of the blade not the same as the other side of the blade. If the blade ever came in contact with only one of the guide blocks it would chang...

I use one that came with a Jet pen turning kit and another that I think came from Woodcraft. The one from Woodcraft was just a shaft and bushings while the one from the Jet kit had a #2 Morse taper on it. If you happen to have one with the #2 Morse taper, the tapered section can be removed for use o...

Ryan No you are not. Blades with 1 1/4 inch holes would have to be custom modified. The arbor in Dusty's post is a 5/8 arbor with a large diameter body which is, I believe, is designed to reduce vibration. If you notice that the 1 1/4 arbors have a narrower body where it slips onto the spindle it is...

Actually the stop collars are not very expensive. I found them in a store that provides bearings, pillow blocks and arbor shafts to the power transmission industry. They are very similar to depth stops for drill bits but are of course larger. Check your local directory for bearing suppliers in tour ...

If you make your own moldings using the molding head then the stop collars are used to get the table back to the same position for the final pass. It generally requires three passes to get decent looking moldings.
They are also useful when making wide and deep dados for the same reason.

Hi Guys I have the sharpening system also and I find that that there is definitely a learning curve involved in using it. I have reshaped my lathe chisels and also some bench chisels using the guide. I first used it mounted to a board on the extension table but then switched to using the main table....

Hi and welcome to the forum The green band saw cover is not green but it is the grey cover that hs faded to a green. If you want to restore it try the Shopsmith grey touch up paint if it is still available. The cover on my son's machine that I bought at a farm sale was green and had light streaks on...

Further thoughts. From the problem that you describe about having to shim the platten to get a square edge it sounds that the whole assembly has been twisted due being dropped or some other rough handling. You seem to have corrected one out of square problem by introducing another out of square situ...
