I hope the motor will prove to be salvagable. Its 1 1/8 hp replacement has been installed and is working fine. Good luck and enjoy!

Dust Collection in Table Saw Mode

I finally got around to hooking my dust collector to the SS table saw setup. There are two 2 1/2" ports on the lower saw guards. They don't seem to be very effective. I still get a lot of sawdust everywhere. Is this a common issue, or am I missing something? I'm using a 3/4 hp Delta two stage d...

The first thing I'd check is what else is on the circuit. When my father in law gave me his SS, he told me to fire it up and run it for a minute or two at least once a month or it would blow a circuit breaker. Based my experience, you need something pretty close to 15 amps to start the thing cold af...

I don't do enough woodworking, have enough room (my shop is 12x25) or have a enough of a need to do things quickly to justify a $3,000 Unisaw. Sure, I'd love to have one, and the SS table saw isn't ideal. But for the number of times I need one, it's fine (I have a compound miter saw for small stuff)...

Thanks to all for the replies. Unfortunately (or maybe not!) I missed the one I was interested in, but I'll keep my eyes open. Would $150 be too much for one in resonably good shape?

Thinking of Buying a Used SS Bandsaw

I'm thinking of buying a used bandsaw for my SS Mk V, 1958 vintage. I'd probably be using it only occasionally. Any suggestions about what to look for/questions to ask would be appreciated.

I restarted the old motor and the squeel retrurned. I think I'm probably going to go for the new motor. The original motor is now 53 years old, it's making noise and I smoked it for at least 5 sec. by wiring it wrong. Plus the new motor is a third more powerful. I've commited myself to a pair of cus...

I wired the motor up properly, fired it up on a bench and it seems to run fine. No signs of smoke or burning, and the case stays cool. I ran it for about 5 minutes, then turned it on and off a number of times. It starts fine and I can hear the relay faintly click as it should on start and stop. But ...

Thanks so much for your reply. The picture seems to show the white wire going to what I called the "left pole" of the relay and then continuing, I assume, to the power cord. That's where the connector was snapped off and wasn't connected. I'm going to try hooking it up on a bench and pray ...

Hi, Everyone - a Newbie with a Question

Hi, everyone. I hope somebody can help me with a question about the wiring of the Mark V motor. I recently replaced the switch on my Mark V - 500 (1958 model). But there was a detached wire and I don't know where it goes. I fired it up and it ran, but the motor started smoking. Shopsmith says they d...
