Ok Ed and Red, thx for the advice. I suppose both of you did not invert the SS to determine. And I further take it that 1-5/8” or a tad less might be the outcome. Now to find a decent 1/2” board to cut up for spacers before clamping.

I have the same vac, and a year ago mine had the same problem. I took the motor cover off and found the failure point was at the switch. Poor contact, high resistance due to sparking and pitting. Easy fix.

The slower the better. I guess your powerpro will slow down to 250 ish. I’ve read complaints about new Forstner bits being dull out of the box, there are articles online for how to sharpen “better than new”.

Your rpms are ok for softwood, but perhaps too high for hardwood, per this article.

My solution was to purchase a SS speed reducer, but I wanted it to turn large heavy blanks on the lathe, as well as large drill bits.
