Re: Looking for advice, horizontal boring, edge joining with dowels and glue

In the meantime, what I have now is bar clamps and pipe clamps. How can I make these work? Pete: Here is a photo clipped from a Fine Woodworking article on clamping. In the picture you can see that the cauls span the boards that are being edge joined and downward pressure on the cauls is being appl...

Re: Looking for advice, horizontal boring, edge joining with dowels and glue

What are your recommendations for glueing the boards together and keeping them flat? What type of clamps should I be using? Are there clamping techniques that work best? The key to keeping panel glue-ups flat is using cauls with the clamps. The clamps apply pressure across the joint and the cauls a...

Re: Carriage Stop Ring for Mk V 500

The carriage on my 500 is from an old Greenie, and it is threaded on the side facing the headstock for a stop bolt which does the same job the spacer ring does. The stop bolt is adjusted to provide the correct spacing, then locked down with a nut. Stop Bolt Photo.jpg Maybe your old carriage is threa...

Re: Dating a Mark 5 by it's serial number.

Hi Midwest Preacher;

Here is a chart that gives serial numbers and approximate dates, but it does not seem to help with identifying the date of your machine. JPG is correct, more information and a picture or two would help.

Re: Great Idea or Just Madness...

Interesting idea! The hardware will be the critical part. That 'whitewood' resembles spruce. I agree...a VERY interesting idea. That will be a lot of weight, though, so the hardware may turn out to be some sort of roller bearings and not just oversize lazy susan hardware. Maybe an opportunity for s...
