I feel like I have the best of two worlds, really three with my hand tool collection. Excellent point...I suspect that most of the people who discount Shopsmith based on the (misperceived) onerous burden of frequent mode changes have never actually worked with the machine. Even so, there may be a g...

Once in an Advantage Plan it might prove difficult to get into a Medigap if you decide to change. That is one reason I went with a regular Medigap Plan F.

[quote="algale"]I experimented. You need to have a wood extension on the miter gauge with a pin. Works for cutting a spiral kerf -- but it is just the kerf. Thanks for the response. Your results are about what I would have expected. Not sure I see any advantage over just cutting the kerf w...

Spirals on Table Saw

I read these posts and they triggered a memory of a picture in an earlier version of PTWFE of roughing out a spiral on the tablesaw. Looking back to the previous edition (1984) I found what I was thinking of on pages 102 and 103. The basic idea is to angle the miter gage and spin the round workpiece...

Hello all, After many delays, it's almost time to put my Greenie to use as a lathe. I've turned a few things in the past, but that's near to ancient history, so I guess I'm starting from scratch. How do I learn to do this? I've got a DVD on the way ( Turning Wood by Richard Raffan ), and I know tha...

I have really enjoyed having a look at the shop pictures that have been posted so far. Its great to see how shops are organized around the ShopSmith. So, in the spirit of share and share alike, here are some pix I took this morning in the shop. The current project in process is some tall cupboard do...

This is a question for those who make their own table saw inserts. Do you strive to level the insert with the table top or is a slight step (.008" to .010") between the table and the insert considered tolerable. I make mine from hardboard, and there has been a little step like you describ...

No I usually do not use the upper guard. As I age I feel the need to have a clear field of vision. The Shopsmith upper guard does not offer me a comfortable feeling in that one area. I hope this next comment will not constitute a wide ranging rant. im Hi Jim; No desire to argue or disagree, since o...
