Re: Mark 5 doesn’t start

Since you have followed David's suggestions along with Dusty's lubrication recommendation and none worked, I would suspect there may be bearings that need to be replaced. If the motor is running fine without the belt attached extra strain is coming from somewhere. This will require some headstock di...

Re: Dragged out a shopsmith

RonKlein,

Good point about Floor Wax. It was apparently not the case when the early Mark 5 Manuals were written but I will revise my Model 10E/10ER Owner's Guide addendum. Thank you for pointing that out for any other readers of this thread looking for guidance on what wax to use.

Re: Dragged out a shopsmith

Below is some information on waxing metal parts on the Shopsmith tools from early Owner's Guides. It is a section I add to Owner's Guides of Model 10E and 10ER Shopsmith tools when I sell a restoration. Maintenance: Waxing CAUTION Use paste floor or furniture wax. Do not use car wax or spray furnitu...

Re: Greenie Parts replacement help

2106, Welcome to the Shopsmith Forum. As has already been said the plastic cap on the end of the Drive Sleeve shown below is not necessary for the Mark 5 Gilmer Drive system to function. The first mark 5 Greenies made did not have the plastic cap. _ Gilmer Clutch Type Drive Sleeve.jpg . If you desir...

Re: Dragged out a shopsmith

ArcticsShop, It looks like you have really dove into getting your Shopsmith in working condition. Alignment on the Shopsmith Mark V itself is a great starting point but do consider lubricating the needed parts since it was stored for a long time. Follow the recommendations in the manual but consider...

Re: The Ultimate Sawsmith Radial Arm Saw Thread

drumone, First off welcome to the Shopsmith Forum. I have not owned a Sawsmith Radial Arm Saw but do know some things about them. Other who do have firsthand knowledge may add their posts too. The Sawsmith RAS was made in the late 1950's to the early 1960's. Parts are hard to find and must be found ...

Re: Sharpening Guide

Bill, I like your portable Grinding set up on the Tool Base Cabinet. Since moving I put my Radial Arm Saw on a similar base cabinet since it was no longer "built in" on cabinets like it was in my old shop. Shortly after putting the RAS on the Tool Base Cabinet, I found the long-lost remain...

Re: Jigs and Fixtures

Let me add "Nice Jigs!" I have thought about making an extended Fence Face for times I use the Floating Tables as infeed supports to keep materials straight as they are being fed to the Saw Blade. Hadn't considered using one as a Crosscut Sled Support. Should be more stable than using a se...

Re: Income Taxes - 2023

David, Yes, I have deducted the $500K capital gains exclusion but still have a large gain to pay taxes on. Our original purchase price plus improvements over the years was only about a quarter of the selling price after 37 years. I did a lot of the work on improvements myself and my labor cannot be ...
