You might try a center drill or a countersink cutter to locate the hole and then follow up with the correct sized drill bit. What diameter of hole are you drilling?

I'm not a big fan of MDF for this application, it probably won't wear too well and soaks up moisture like a sponge. This project will be enough work that you will want it to last for a while. As far as plywood thickness you may be over killing this a bit which will cost you quite a bit in storage sp...

Or if you want a little of the grain to show through you could sand, raise the grain, sand again, and stain with black aniline dye. I did this for the base on a coffee table. The top is an old WWII Liberty ship hatch cover and the base was made from 2 x 4's. After the dye was dry I put on a couple c...

All this assumes my understanding that older threads are removed. Most forums (at least the ones I watch) keep all the old threads, some lose data due to varying catastrophes. One was hacked and was able to recover the posts but lost the user ID's so all the archived messages are from "histori...

The only problem with the external storage is that from an archival standpoint they are pretty unreliable. The company changes ownership, goes belly up, etc. and the photos are gone. At least with uploading them to Shopsmith they will stay with the thread as long as the forum exists.

All, You guys have some nice shops and I have seen a few ideas that I hope to incorporate someday. While it is unlikely that anyone will see much to borrow here I suppose it does demonstrate what can be done with a very limited space. The SPT's and accessories are stowed on the shelves, my planer is...

OK I've memorized the density of aluminum but had to do a quick check on stainless steel. Once again about a third. So with 8foot stainless steel tubes a super duper lift assist might be helpful, along with cathedral ceilings. :D

You can try Online Metals they have lots of tubing and it is pretty affordable. I have ordered from them before. The 1.5" SS tubing in 8 ft. length is about $115. I didn't check the aluminum tubing but it is usually less expensive than the stainless just not sure it would be as strong. Michael...
