Speed Control Issue
I have researched this issue and found this thread https://forum.shopsmith.com/viewtopic.php?t=29211&hilit=speed+control I am getting a similar drift problem but my question relates to the setscrew connection between the Speed Control Handle (84) and the Worm Control Shaft (87). See attached pho...

A Time Capsule Behind the Mirror
Some years ago I refinished a sheet-music cabinet stand. Had several open slots for the sheet-music. The top was crowned with a small oval beveled mirror. Removing the wooden plate behind the mirror, I found a time capsule from May of 1912. Newspaper, folded and inserted behind the mirror to prevent...

Re: battery powered lawn mower
I have used a corded electric mower for many years. Always Black & Decker, because they seem to offer the widest cutting widths. Their twin-blade 22" was one of the best electric mowers made. One trouble with the electric mowers in general and battery electrics especially, is their narrow c...

Re: Speed Control Upgrades
Thanks DLB for the response. Your issue stems from the pinned design, as does mine. I don't have any rotational or axial slop, what I have is the spline axis and the shaft axis are not co-axial. Which may be my fault or Shopsmith's, because I don't recall ever overloading the drill press. I have alw...

Re: Speed Control Upgrades
Yesterday the control sheave fix (I previously called it an "idler" sheave) that I had put in, finally crapped out. The 0.002"stainless shim (that I put into the bore to soak up the excess slop) came out shredded. Couldn't believe how shredded up it was. I had expected the shim to sta...

Re: Roller Stand Repair
Yeah, I would think that a bent bolt would be about the cheapest yet most durable way to do a crank handle. Why they all keep using a soft plastic handle that strips out is a mystery to me.
Re: Comments?
This thread has gone from lousy boxes to the future of Shopsmith. I worry about that as well. I recently expressed my concerns in another thread ("the very negative reviews the current company management has gotten on certain employee-review sites" ). Here I will state my first-hand reason...

Roller Stand Repair
I know others have run into this hazardous problem with roller stands, so this might have been covered in a previous thread... While back I bought two Lowes "Kobalt" brand roller stands, and after short use the absurd soft polypro torque-lock handles rapidly crapped out on each of them. I ...

Re: Broken wheels
I have used those "premium" urethane casters (yes SS calls the wheels "polyolefin" but calls the tires "urethane") for over 10 years on very rough floors, and no problems so far. But I do know that there can be wide variation in urethane component strength/durability. U...
