Turning to capacity on SS

I will be turning a 16" x 30" pedestal on my SS. It will be constructed from (10) 3" thick staves. It will be ~1/2" from round to start out (used a cool geometry trick from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decagon to match the stave material to my pattern), if I don't bevel the miter...

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll offer $300 on the '56 since it has the joiner and I need a working machine to keep a promise on a project this week. Then I can go over it and at least get my money back.

To Purchase or Not

Just looked at (2) mid-50's Shopsmiths. Asking price is $1050 for the pair. Don't need them, except my motor is in the shop and I need to move forward on a couple of projects this week. What is a reasonable price for this set? Need a good degreasing and the bottom tubes need an electrolysis bath. Bo...

Bearing Replacement help

About a couple of months ago, my SS developed an occasional squeal. I have been following the oiling instructions in the manual. At the last oiling, we used a more advanced lube, which made a noticable improvement in the occurance of the squeal. Yesterday, I used the disc sander and later started to...

I have the stock Mark 5 set up. I could and have done this type of operation on my router set up, but I like the idea on small stuff of being able to see the line and exactly what is happening. With the right set up it should be a pretty slick operation. I am thinking maybe a piece of plywood with a...

Using the router collet on the SS

I am ready to expand my knowledge of the various set up options on the SS. I have a plunge router and a table mounted router so unless I decide to do some pin router work I don't anticipate a need to purchase a separate router set up for my SS. Dados and mortises will probably be done on one of my o...

Router chuck

I'd prefer a 1/2". If you find it let me know what you want for it. I can probably order a new one for I think about $20ish, but always looking for a deal. I have two excellent PC routers, but there are a few things that would be nice to do while watching the cut and aren't easy to do with a fr...

Router chuck in dress press set up

I am ready to explore other ways to use my SS. There are times that it would be nice to be able to see the cut. I am not interested in adding the overhead router set up that requires a router at this time, but curious if I can do some of the same things with the router chuck on the SS quill. I know ...

Lube and Rust Control

PG2000 used to have an oil pen that is perfect for getting those oils drops where they need to go. I bought mine at Woodcraft. They still sell the big bottles of PG2000, but I haven't seen the pens in the store lately, but probably still available from PG2000 if WC doesn't still carry them online. I...
