To be clear, what I am asking here is illustrated in a pdf of the CAD drawing I made. As you can see in the drawing, when the drive sleeve assembly is kept immobile (56) the blade (spindle assembly - 62) can be rotated forwards and backwards 4.88 degrees or a 0.425" chord on a radius of 5"...

We have a saying around here, Ed: "Make it idiot-proof and God invents a better idiot." If there is any chance, however remote, that a miter gauge could be used to make this cut, some new, improved super-idiot will find it. I thought it best to publish a disclaimer so we will all have a c...

"...I will give you one more board to cut, this time it is a 4'x8' sheet of plywood that you want to cut in half the 4' way. You have the miter set with only a .1 or 1/10 degree error... That should be close enough..." Not to ruin a good thread, but what in God's green earth are you guys ...

So Chuck you took the army FDC classes? Me too, small world, from the people in my classes I'm not sure how safe anyone was out in the field... I think if I dug around enough I might still have my protractor in mills, circular and about 6" dia. if I'm thinking of the right one. I got out of tha...

You need a longer crank, but this is a brilliant idea! You could do something similar with the belt sander, also. Yea the crank pictured is way to small... grizzly has one that has the 5/8" hole and are 6-1/4" dia. and are only $8.95. One of those might be handy for spinning the shopsmith...

FYI I went out and checked mine on my old 510 fence and they free fall... no binding at all. You might want to check the fit on the table miter slots, if they fit there then it has to be something with the fence... if on the other hand they don't fit there either then the parts that came with your f...

"It strikes me there could be an engineer, or two, here somewhere. I deal with engineers on a daily basis. I run into this a few years back somewhere. If there are no engineers, thats okay, hope you enjoy this anyway. If there are engineers, I hope you are not offended..." I'm retired and ...

"... Measurements, whether they be 1/1000" or 1/10 degree are meaningless by themselves, except they are both pretty small. When you consider that huge rockets that lift the space shuttles diameter was ruled by the width of the width of two royal war horses - Roman chariots, then wagons, t...

I'm not Nick but until he posts....... When the speed control is hard to turn it might be the sheaves sticking and that has been addressed. What I have found is that it is often the part called the quadrant assembly or speed control assembly. If you have a manual or catalog or what to go online and ...

hand powered chisel sharpening "wizard"

I just finished doing some posts on my Sunday project. It has to do with the shopsmith strip sander with the chisel sharpening attachment. You might be interested if you do lathe work and don't have a work around for the need to mount the strip sander quill side. You might like it if you like to do ...
