Stumpy Nubs with SS lathe chisels
While watching this Stumpy Nubs (aka James Hamilton) video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOmfKC_XWfA I happened to pay attention to the handles of some of the chisels for this lathe stand. Five (possibly the basic set) appear to be ShopSmith. :p The first time I spotted one was at about 7:48...

Re: Is the 520 Pro Fence and Table System Upgrade worth it?
I wish my stainless steel tape measure was just slight narrower in width so that I couldn't accidentally catch the edge of it and lift it like this, or I wish the magnet could be a rare earth magnet kind that has more holding force. I haven't seen any adhesive backed rare earth magnet tape though. ...

Re: New Kreg adaptive cutting system
My curiosity regarding the saw is blade side. My track saw (as well as Festool and Makita) and my circ saws all have the blade to the right of the motor, where the Kreg is to the left. I wonder why they went that way? I have heard of circ saws with the blade on the left but never remember using one....

Re: New Kreg adaptive cutting system
Great discussion, I hope when the Kreg system becomes available we will get some good feedback on it. Ed, My apologies for hijacking this thread to discuss Festool. Sorry about that. This Kreg system looks interesting for a track saw solution. When I think of Kreg, I always think of their jig solut...

Re: New Kreg adaptive cutting system
I’ve been to a few trade shows over the decades; COMDEX (computers), SEMA (car parts) and the first time is always amazing. So many new things. The second time is less thrilling and those after that are generally just to meet with certain people, make deals and leave. As Sehast wrote, these later on...

Re: Twin Turbo Vise Kickstarter - Andrew Klein
I have watched the videos and finally contacted him before he had a firm idea of his price structure. At that time he was closer to $300 and was not ready for production but had, I think, a couple vises in the hands of others as a beta or feedback. I had not yet decided on what my new bench would be...

Re: New Kreg adaptive cutting system
If I was a contractor, Feel free to add to this or correct anything that I have stated. Like I said, I am just hoping to learn more about what makes Festool worth their steep price... First let me say I don’t own any Festool. I’ve used many of their tools, but that is because many of my friends are...

Re: 1/16" Shopsmith bandsaw blade (part number 555386)
The shopsmith 1/16" bandsaw blade has been "currently not available" (see http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/catalog/bandsawcarbonsteelblades.htm) for, I think, some years now. Is there a third-party alternative? I did some searching today without coming up with a likely-looking cand...

Re: Shopsmith Lathe face shield
This is not specific to the shield, but mounting to thin sheet metal or inaccessible from behind. When I don’t need the mounting plate flush to the backing metal, I use a rivnut. I’ve used a cheap method to install them (had to go to YouTube to find the video similar to what I do) https://youtu.be/y...

Re: nteresting Festool MFT copy
Finally saw the intro to the system. Some "unique" accessories, but they still appear to be made from flexible plastic. I though the parallel guides using a modified tape rule were clever, but not any thing I would trust. But then that's just me. It will be interesting to see how sales do....
