Re: MAG-DRO Alignment Tool Option

A simple test - place the fence and slightly skew it. Close the front clamp and it should self align before the rear clamp touches the table. This is not happening. It will lock askew. As the front clamp starts to engage and I can see the outfeed side start to move a bit to align the fence, but the...

Re: MAG-DRO Alignment Tool Option

I watched the WoodWorkWeb video, at least around the 7:40 mark and have to agreed with several others here. I don't get the point of it. Yes, you are getting the point of the video, and you are correct. However, at around that 7:40 mark it appears to me he is creating a method to setup the tablesaw...

Re: MAG-DRO Alignment Tool Option

I looked at it quickly, and I thought both clamps moved at about the same time, but maybe the front is in fact moving just a bit prior. I will need to examine it much closer, maybe the infeed clamp is not gripping tightly before the outfeed clamp grabs? I took that apart and cleaned it up, I wonder ...

Re: MAG-DRO Alignment Tool Option

But the mothership later introduced some kind of infeed edge on the table that I'm unfamiliar with, but I think it has some play that would impact fence alignment. My table has a separate bolt-on rail, it is not the type that is cast. Some known 'gotchas' on that fence: Make sure any setscrews are ...

Re: MAG-DRO Alignment Tool Option

My question is, what is not true? We all strive for precision, but in wood working that precision is not 2 or 3 thou. Set the fence for 3" . Cut a piece of stock. Is it consistently 3"? Good enough. No, It's not consistently 3". What's worse, it sometimes relocks into position with t...

Re: MAG-DRO Alignment Tool Option

If you have already aligned the table (miter track) to be parallel to the blade could you not use a piece of wood)milled to fit in the miter track and simply snug the fence up against that piece of wood (47/64"x 1"x 16")? I see what you guys are talking about. Yes, the dowel is a gre...

Re: MAG-DRO Alignment Tool Option

A straight 1" dowel would be simpler. I'm not envisioning the dowel? I am currently experimenting with a 1/4" steel rod thru the miter gauge stop rod holes (see below pic), but I really need two. I'm trying to do something similar to this YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBg...

Re: MAG-DRO Alignment Tool Option

I am curious if measuring with it locked then unlocking and relocking the trunion in that sequence also results in that 0.001 deviation between before and after. That's easy enough to check for you. I will report back tonight. Mike - I would expect considerable movement but do anticipate that the p...
