I have cut soft metals, aluminum and brass, on mine using the normal blades for wood. For thin pieces it helps to back with wood.

Also check that the insert is fully seated in the back of the chuck. As I recall there have been reports of people having vibration issues due to that. The G3 manual I found on the Nova web site is pretty sketchy on mounting the insert, it is covered in more detail in the SuperNova2 manual SuperNova...

The 10E/ER's use a wooden bench instead of bench tubes, so definitely possible. You may get some ideas from this video.
