Ed, there is a problem with this discussion every time it comes up. Your figures for what is would cost to replace the Shopsmith shop with stand alones is always way different than my estimates. There can only be one explanation (maybe two). Your list of equipments that would constitute a suitable ...

The blade being wedged up against the insert could be part of the problem. Loosen the quill lock handle (just to the right of the On/Off switch) and advance the quill feed lever (probably attached to the quill depth feed knob on the other side of the headstock) until the blade is centered in the ins...

The stuttering/ chattering/ pounding PowerPro problem has, for me, escalated into a very serious matter. And asking for help and not getting it is now more than a coffee break joke. Using the bandsaw t'other day, in a familiar configuration--i.e. table saw blade still on, well protected-- part way ...

I can't think of any function that will be impaired by painting the lower support tubes on a Mark V. But if you do a little poking around on this site I think you will find that the tubes can usually be restored quite nicely using any one of several different techniques and the end result will be mo...

I CANNOT locate equipment of comparable quality for the price of a new Mark 7. Okay, I'm back on my soapbox. Dusty raises a good point about not being able to find less expensive tools of comparable quality . To that I'd add that it is really very difficult to compare prices of other tools to Shops...

Completely serious, I had a good laugh when I first saw it advertised then I purchased the Rockler one. It swivels out of the way and holds 12 lathe tools (one shown), normally I will use a covered travel mug and I have a big dust collector behind the cutting area. Take care....

In case anyone is curious I am building an adapter that will allow me to connect several Jet mini-lathe accessories to my PowerPro the most important is the new coffee cup holder just introduced by Rockler and Woodcraft. Is this serious or a joke? If serious, and if your lathe work is anything like...

I was on another forum / list that he was on and on it he ragged on Shopsmiths constantly... I always kind of thought that maybe Shopsmith had turned him down for a job / endorsement or something and it was mostly sour grapes. . I don't think his negativity is exclusive to Shopsmith. Go ...
