Re: motor amps ?

hobbyman2 said "Just for asking , what makes you believe the brushes are bad ? is it grinding / knocking ? or throwing sparks or smelling hot ? DLB is probably correct so I am just asking . it never hurts to replace a set of brushes and springs . also there might be a number on the brush that m...

Re: motor amps ?

Interesting history on this tool The Vintage Machinery page on Montgomery Ward - Powr-Kraft shows that the TPC models were made by Portable Electric Tools, Inc. . Then Benchmark Tool Co. succeeded Portable Electric Tools and they made the Shopcraft tools for J.C. Pennys. Somehow this company ended ...

DLB, thanks for that info. I'll inspect the brushes when I get a chance. I'm wondering, if I need to replace the brushes where would I get them?

Re: motor amps ?

Hobbyman2, I use a kill-a-watt meter that plugs into 110v outlet, confirmed with an amprobe.
Motor tag doesn't say anything aboout 220v, only AC/DC 13 amps.
I do have the manual.

Re: motor amps ?

Here is a link to a post of someone restoring this RAS. There is a pic of the motor case opened up showing the motor and geartrain if anyone is interested.

Re: motor amps ?

Universal motor marketers like to tout 'developed' horsepower. Sorta like "peak' power. Induction motors 'deliver' horsepower. I love/hate where this is going. ;) At 115 V and 13 Amps, electrical power in watts for AC is theoretically between 0 and 1495 Watts. If those VA numbers are valid for...

Re: motor amps ?

Is this the manual for your machine, Powr-Kraft TPC-2610B? It has the 20,000RPM aux spindle. http://vintagemachinery.org/pubs/657/6025.pdf Yes, that is the manual for my RAS. I did a test to see what the amps were under load. I crosscut a 4x4,all in one pass,( yes, this saw can cut thru a 4x4 in on...

Re: motor amps ?

JPG, you are correct. The motor turns at 20k and is geared down for the saw arbor. I guess I can live without ripping 2x4s on it . Just didn't make sense to me.
Thanks for all the replies.

Re: motor amps ?

My SSMKVII draws 10.7 amps, no load and my craftsman RAS motor tag says 11.0 amps and it draws 11 amps, no load. IIRC I tried ripping a 2x4 on the powerkraft and there was no way it had had enough power to rip it. My Craftsman could. Can something go bad in the motor that can cause this? As I have s...
