Re: Drill Press Past 90 Dgrees

I'm wonder if the base casting and the base arm casting are matched. The service parts list identifies them as the 'Base for older units' and the 'Base Arm for older units', so there are at least two different versions. There are at least three versions at the assembly level, plus Double Tilt. 1) C...

Re: Drill Press Past 90 Dgrees

Could part incompatibility due to tube diameter be a factor? For example if the base was made for the old large diameter bench tubes but the smaller diameter tubes were present? Or is there any other combinations of these parts that will go together but cause the lower Base casting to be at the wron...

Re: Drill Press Past 90 Dgrees

... A megabyte is equal to 1,000,000 bytes. One mebibyte equals 1.048576 megabytes. The relatively small difference between the two is, in part, why they are often used synonymously ... When I went to school, a megabyte (MB) was 2 to the 20th power bytes, and it still is. The term mebibyte, and sim...

Re: Speed Control Issue

It sounds like you're making good progress. I'd be careful with the cleaner around bearings, especially if it is a spray. SS uses a combination (not necessarily predictable) of sealed and shielded bearings throughout. Keep in mind that the sheaves on the motor shaft serve a similar function to those...

Re: Not Just a Coincidence

I use the quill for fine adjustments or corrections. My first three decades or so using a SS I didn't know about the rubber thing, so my approach was to generally extend the quill a bit (~3/16" ish) before positioning the headstock and table. Then I could make minor adjustments in either direct...

...I don't have a digital level... A smart phone app will work for this. I used to use a free one (Android), but I found it had a great deal of error as the angle moved away from zero, close to 10%, so I went to the Wixey. The phone app was very useful for measuring near 0, but you wouldn't want to...

Re: Drill Press Past 90 Dgrees

Also check for any deformation of the Bench tubes around the clamps. Some POs have been known to grossly overtighten the mounting bolts and partially crush the tubes. Going back to my first post in this thread if you are using some kind of angle gauge you can measure the flats on the lower Base cast...

Re: Scroll Saw Manual

"Food" fer thought. And I thank you for that. Just the thing. The one I picked up is in decent shape, but like the rest of this purchase there is some colorful overspray on things. I've stripped the Power Station for refinishing and things there are getting well. But other than the table ...

Re: Drill Press Past 90 Dgrees

I measured one with the newer style Base, way tube setscrews on top, and it also measured within a couple of tenths of 90 degrees relative to the base tubes. This seems to be the intent of the design.

My Jointer SN is 52814. I'm not up on SPT dates. My Greenie is estimated early 1957.
