Re: Beltsander Alignment
Dusty - I have inspected it and did not have any aha moments. A couple of observations: The "cup" that is used between the nut and a flat washer on the trunnion lock is so snug that it actually threads onto the stud. That seems counter-productive to me but the purpose of the cup is not obv...

Re: Beltsander Alignment
If I correct the alignment while the beltsander is horizontal, then move it to vertical the error will be on what I think of as the front of the SS, the power switch side. Potentially interesting note: if I align it while vertical the eccentrics are in the neutral position where I would have expecte...

Beltsander Alignment
After finishing the drive hub alignment on my SS Belt Sander in the horizontal sanding position, I rotated it to the vertical position. The drive hub was then almost 1/8 inch out of alignment in the horizontal axis. Before doing this I had aligned a bandsaw and it had no horizontal error, in fact I ...

Re: Jointer height to match power coupler - shims?
The old steel eccentric mounts are much less eccentric, in the range of 1/8, but functionally the same as the aluminum ones. I'm reasonably sure that mine are original equipment on a Greenie Jointer, late 50's and green in color. I don't have the original manual. I don't think the typical collars wi...

Re: Jointer height to match power coupler - shims?
There is some variation over the years, but you most likely have aluminum eccentric tubes that are about 3-1/2 inches total length, with the eccentric shoulder about in the middle. Back out the setscrews in the Jointer and remove those eccentrics, put them in the Shopsmith with the upper portion rot...

Re: Power Pro Power Supply
I don't have a Power Pro but I have a lot of electrical/electronic experience. The noise could come from arcing in the mechanical power switch, the one I think you are calling Main. I would try to isolate that by plugging the SS into a switched power strip if you have one with sufficient power ratin...

Re: Bandsaw - How Much Wobble is OK
Great question, Dusty. I don't think any real problem was solved by improving clamped stability from 0.6 degrees to 0.3 degrees. Especially since that figure is without the stabilizing influence of the headstock coupled in, which takes both down to ~0.1. It helped me personally because that wobble i...

Re: Bandsaw - How Much Wobble is OK
A summary of my assessment of my equipment: Mounting the eccentric tubes with no SPT revealed that equal clamp pressure did not result in equal stability. Front tube would rock, left to right, and continue to do so at very high clamp pressure. Anomalous clamping in the front mounting hole appears to...

Re: Bandsaw - How Much Wobble is OK
I would like to get back to the Headrest mounting holes but not right now. The picture I included was only meant to convey how much worse the holes looked visually compared to the base. I need to see if I can find a way to photograph what I think the issue is. These BS eccentrics are new to me, my M...
