Re: 510 Shutting Down
Adding to Algale's post, above. 1A. A dirty saw blade with build up on the teeth will cause the machine to work harder. 1B. A thin-kerf blade might help. 6. Using a crosscut/high tooth count blade when ripping. 7. SS headstock needs cleaned out. Is your 510 a grey machine or a brown/gold that has be...

Re: HDPE or Masonite for zero clearance insert?
Some years back, I used some leftover laminate flooring for a 500 ZCI. It was the right thickness, machines easy, is strong, has very low friction, etc. I've not tried to make one for my 510, so unsure if it is the (near) right thickness for the new table style.

Re: Heads Up - Bargain 'available'
Another steal in the Dallas area. A 520 with PowerPro headstock, jointer, and bandsaw on stand (I don't think that's a SS stand?). $1000.

Re: Heads Up - Bargain 'available'
Not just a bargain but a flat out steal for someone if they are in/near enough to the Virgiana Beach VA area. $350 for a 510, jointer, strip sander, and jig saw.

Re: Which older Shopsmith as a lathe?
I just ran across this SS duplicator for sale on FB Marketplace. I don't know if it is complete, but appears to be much more so than the earlier ebay post.

Re: Which older Shopsmith as a lathe?
I am in Southern New England. You might check to see if there is a Rockler store near you that has their duplicator in stock and/or if anyone in the store has any experience with it. We don't (yet, but soon) have a Rockler in the OKC area, but the local Woodcraft store has very knowledgeable employ...

Re: Which older Shopsmith as a lathe?
One of my questions remains: can an off-the-shelf duplicator be hooked up to the Shopsmith? The Shopsmith branded duplicator may prove elusive. RexLumber, You'd have to figure out how to attach one, probably with some additional blocks mounted to the upper way tubes, but something like this one fro...

Re: Which older Shopsmith as a lathe?
To be clear, I am talking about repair sections for columns, not full columns. Maybe 12-16" long by 6" diameter. If a blank for a 14" diameter bowl could be turned on a Shopsmith (as I've read on this forum), why not what I describe? Regardless, my immediate pursuit is balusters... R...

Re: Which older Shopsmith as a lathe?
RexLumber, I'll toss out my experiences and thoughts on using a 500 as a lathe. I bought a used 500, in pretty good condition, around 15+ years ago, it was built, if I remember correctly around 83-84, so it is a grey model, but single bearing quill; it came with a bandsaw and jointer. I can't rememb...

Inexpensive Dust Collector Remote Switch
I bought an inexpensive remote switch to test with my DC3300 a couple months back, it's currently $15, I paid a little less, figured that was a cheap gamble and I'd find some other use for it if it didn't work out. I finally got a round tuit and got it installed the other day. I'm glad to report tha...
